Mauer won with 27 of 28 first place votes, with Miguel Cabrera receiving the other vote.
Yes, Cabrera had a great year but no way in hell should Cabrera deserve a vote. This is most likely the same writer who gave Verlander the one vote he received in the AL Cy Young Award. I understand sports writers tend to vote players from their city, but this guy needs to be fired.

Congrats to Mauer. Pretty amazing season considering he missed the first month.
I do think all this voting crap (HOF, Heisman, etc.) is a joke. Hats off to those who take the job seriously....there is no doubt in my mind many don't (they think they do, but they don't).

Speaking of asshole writers, I just read that 2 of them left Carpenter COMPLETELY off their ballots for Cy Young because he missed some time due to injury. Yeah, and he STILL put up fantastic numbers...makes it even more remarkable. What a bunch of dicks.

90% of sportswriters are scumb**s, they make a living off of critiquing athletes when a majority of them are the polar opposite of being an athlete. Most of them are fat, out of shape, and could really care less about the teams they are covering as long as they are getting paid.

Yeah this is becoming a joke. The worst I think is how the BBWAA refuse to unanimously vote for someone to get in the hall because Babe Ruth was not unanimously selected so they feel no one else should get that honor. What a crock of shit.

It's one of your Detroit writers Dther. He's obviously a huge homer and it's a joke.

Don't confuse this thread with facts................
What facts am I missing? I said MOST LIKELY and apparently I was wrong. But fact is, the guy who voted for Cabrera should be stripped of his vote, just like the guy who voted for Verlander should be stripped as well.
Grienke and Mauer were the CLEAR choices. (I could POSSIBLY understand a vote for Felix in the CY, and MAYBE a vote for Tex in the MVP, but Cabrera and Verlander are ludicrous choices. Period)

They have a vote and can exercise it anyway they see fit. Clearly his one vote made no difference and frankly if I was a DET beatwriter I would probably vote for Miggy too over division rival MIN. I am sure I will get better interviews with Miggy and all DET players, my customers probably appreciate the hometown support and no one deserves to be a unimous anything. There is always room for argument. This is coming from a HUGE Twins fan too! But I get what you are saying.
