Looks like they play some mean stickball in the Hood. I wonder if I could become a wealthy slumlord in one of these fair cities. I tthink they be playin for second fiddle to the winner of Balt-NYY. I think they take turns beating ea other up. Lean Oak tonight, w/ Anderson up, and big drop off in pitching for the Tigers.

Oak 1st 5
Oak -1
Good bet(s), but you're full of shit lumping Oakland in with Detroit. I've lived in a gorgeous house in the Oakland hills with a five bridge view, including the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges. Almost zero crime, zero violent crime, and temperature ALWAYS between 50 and 85.
The shitty parts of New York are just as bad or worse than here, and our nice areas are full of chill intellectuals rather than stressed out cokeheads. So, basically, west coast owns the east coast's ass, and we have two division winners this year.
You're also right that whoever wins this ALDS is going to lose to the Orioles.

Urban blight's everywhere. Fact is though, people WANT to live in LA, NY, SF, Boston, D.C., because they get good incomes, careers, some cultural excitement and try to deal w/ the downside of those advantages (poverty, drugs, crime, etc). I know I can get a house in Oak for a 1/3 of NY prices, and it's a fact NY spends $15,000 per student for public schooling, compared to abt. $5,000 in Cali. I'm certain your cooled intellectual brain can absorb those facts.

Didn't say New Yorkers aren't intellectual... you guys just get up in arms about the most mundane bullshit.
Your analogy isn't fair. Oakland is to SF as Brooklyn is to Manhattan. A little bit more blighted but IMO, better than the respective big brother.
Oakland and the surrounding 'burbs are 10-25 minutes from SF, and you get the same house/housing for half as much. Much to your surprise, people do really want to live here. I have family in Boston and NY, and personally, I wouldn't want to live there.
I didn't mean to make this a personal vendetta, but there's two things I stand firm on in life: don't say shit about places you haven't been to/don't have relevant experience with, and don't say hockey sucks til you've been to a game.

I just looked at a house in Oakland that was a 2/1 with 1200 sq.ft., had multiple bidders, and went for $620k. In the flats... granted, a really nice/bougie part of Oakland/Berkeley. You're telling me that in non-Manhattan boroughs, housing is 3x as expensive? Yeah right.
Zuckerberg's Palo Alto zip code is at about $950/sqft, and that likely destroys anywhere in the country excepting a few locales in Manhattan.

I dunno man. To each his own. If you're surrounded by shit (or you overlook it from the hills), it's still shit. But I guess flowers can grow just as well in shit as they can in a garden. It's not for me, das all.
