Is Ohio State that much better than last year? No. Is Terrell Pryor that much of an improvement in certain situations, maybe. But USC's defense is an NFL defense, they have a strong secondary, the best linebackers in the country and a very dominating front 4. I'm not saying the Buckeyes showed their hand at all, but I'm saying USC is that much better...plus, they don't lose in the coliseum.
ECU plays as a team. Tulane is a conference opponent that they'll be focused on. Two big wins for ECU did nothing but build their confidence. They have a better coach and better athletes.
UCLA could beat BYU, but if the Cougars win it won't be by more than a TD.
Is Cal that much better than Maryland? Yes. Maryland's offense is pathetically anemic. Not saying Washington State is any good, but Maryland is not what you would call (remotely even close) a respectable team

The Buckeyes are the same team everyone has seen for the last 2 years, they are EXTREMELY vulnerable. The Trojans are also the same team that we've seen for the last two years, minus Lawrence Jackson, Keith Rivers, and John David Booty. Pete Carroll is a better coach than Jim Tressell, he has better athletes and he is without a doubt the best big game coach in the country. Ohio State is going to get curbstomped in LA.
Tulane is good, but not that good, they played out of their mind and still couldn't beat a young Alabama team.
Steve Spurrier is a great coach, but he doesn't have the weapons this year to keep up with Mark Richt's Dawgs

And spots like these are where the books get rich. The Cal game is a no play for me, and with the exception of Georgia I will be on the opposite of the rest of these picks as well. It's the perfect storm of public perception vs reality.
Don't get too caught up in what you've already seen...especially when all we've seen so far is non-conference games.

Yes, but remember, those are preseason lines, where they are based on hunches. Maryland is a lot better team preseason this year than they are in the actual season. Cal was 50/50 on the qb situation in the preseason and now they are treating it like 2002 when they had Aaron Rodgers and Reggie Robertson where they split snaps. Keep in mind they did beat USC that year and they are doing the same system this year. Cal is a good team, don't underestimate them. I will continue to underestimate the Terps until they give me a reason not to.
CMU is a good line and ill be all over that one

I think Neuheisel got Craft's confidence up enough and helped him lead the Bruins past Tennessee, I think that will carry over in to this week. If UCLA doesn't win (which I think they have a good possibility of pulling the upset), they will keep it close and cover

Ohio State is good, but they aren't THAT good. They prove it at least once every year. It's too bad they play in the Big 10 filled with cupcakes. I've said it and I'll continue to say it, USC is better, more athletic, deeper, more physical, I'll quote Jim Tressel, "(USC) is the best damn team in the country"

What about the fact that the only second half points that Ohio put up was off a ball snapped over Boeckman's head and recovered in the end zone? There were a ton of self inflicted wounds in that game bro.
You have to realize that Ohio State was TOTALLY uninterested in that game...mental lapses all over the place, uncharacteristic of that team. Therefore you have to throw that game out the window totally. The only thing that Tressel had in mind after losing Wells was to score more points than Ohio U, and to come away healthy for this week's game.
When it comes to gambling, people have very short memories and that's why the number is so big here. The only thing they see here is that they put up an awful showing the week before USC against a cupcake in the MAC. The books know that people will jump all over USC at double digits after what OSU showed this week.
Don't fall into that trap, think about what these two teams are really all about and make your choice based off of longer term results.
Yes, USC is capable of blowing out Ohio State at home, but Ohio State could also win this game outright. I'm basically seeing that this number is overinflated because of one week and will jump on that number. I can't say if I'm on the right side here, but the value is all on the side of Ohio State. Of course the number will continue to grow all week on top of the overinflation, so most OSU backers are waiting for kickoff.
This my friends is a simple lesson in Value Betting 101.
Finally, just because it says "Ohio" by my name doesn't mean that I'm an Ohio State fan. I'm not, so take my opinions as unbiased ones.
Sorry to get long winded, but I just see so many people out there going with the knee-jerk reaction on this game...trust me, the books know that they're gonna get a ton of USC action on this game, they are going to be backing Ohio State here...as will I.
Best of luck to everyone.
