here's why! first off, if you know the history, and have seen the past couple matchups, since these two teams have been among the elite teams in CFB... both games were very low-scoring, grind it out, earn your points, FG type games...
enter Boise's FG kicker... don't know his name... you can bet your ass Gary Patterson knows his name... Boise has already been struggling... this is not the same Boise team of the last 2 years... and even though TCU is off a bit, they are playing better, and they will be looking at this game as their Super Bowl...
if this game follows the form of the last couple... with a kicker who is a good bet to miss at least 1 XP per game, and may be forced to line up for more FGs than Boise is comfortable with... i think TCU has a very good chance to not only cover, but give themselves a chance to win outright...

ICE, TCU is definitely playing much much better AND will do evrything possible to keep contest low scoring and tight but...this IS NOT the same TCU team either. Lost to SMU at home but, they have FULLY turned season around after that embarassing defeat. Will be very very interesting to see what TCU squad shows up? The Blue turf could be a very major player here, BEWARE. Others games here are much more attractive, enticing and predictable

Good Luck ICE
i do believe i already pointed out that TCU isn't the same as the past couple years... but that's the point! neither is Boise...
Boise just basically got shoved all over the football field for the 1st half against UNLV... UNLV (a truly SHIT football team) was legitimately competitive in that game, and was right in the game through the first 2 quarters... even in the 2nd half, Boise didn't exactly pull away in Boise fashion...
i have never been one to bet against Boise... but i'll tell you right now, i am salivating at the prospect of Boise playing in a BCS game against a real team this year... past years, i would be on Boise... but this team is nothing short of bullshit!
i truly don't believe Boise is one of the top 10 (maybe not top 15) teams in CFB, and last year i think they were top 4... between TCU and Boise, i think you would be hard-pressed to say that TCU has fallen off more than Boise... i've watched them both, and Boise is a totally different animal this year, and one that doesn't scare anybody in CFB, if you ask me...

Boise's defense is not where it has been the past 3 years:
2011... 0 shutouts, 1 held to single-digits, 3 held to 14 or less
2010... 3 shutouts, 6 held to single-digits, 9 held to 14 or less
2009... 1 shutout, 5 held to single-digits, 7 held to 14 or less
2008... 1 shutout, 6 held to single-digits, 9 held to 14 or less
over that same span of time, Boise has played a total of 45 games:
they have scored less than 30 points 8 times in 45 games
they have scored less than 20 points 3 times in 45 games
2 of those 3 games were against TCU!!!...
the other was Oregon, who only lost 1 game that year (to Boise)
TCU is the only team to hold Boise to 17 or less, and they did it both times!
the last time TCU lost a game by 2 TDs (let alone more than 2 TDs) was in Sept. 2008, on the road against Oklahoma (the #2 team in the nation at that time)... TCU lost by 24
moral of the story: i just think Gary Patterson knows how to play this team... both times they met in Bowl Games i was surprised at how inept TCU made Boise look on offense... those were grind it out games... and those were against Boise teams who had more proficient offenses and (Nevada game aside) great kickers... this year's offense has struggled at times, and has a guy who has missed like 10+ XPs this year...
even if Boise gets up by 28 in this game, if there is still 10 minutes on the clock, TCU will have a very legit chance of covering...

Nevada could be this week's team to be undone by its kicking game. The Wolf Pack is down to its third-string kicker, who is the punter. He made all six XP's vs. Hawai'i Saturday, but his inexperience was probably part of the reason coach Ault ran a fake FG play in the 4th quarter of a 7 point (at the time) game. Yeah, the fake FG worked, but that's not a viable long-term strategy, and La Tech will be watching for it. I've seen no updates in the local press about the status of Nevada's top two kickers heading into Saturday.
And the punter's got issues punting. He's been getting the kicks away waaaaaaay too slowly. He had a punt blocked and returned for a TD vs. Hawai'i. In a matchup of two teams I consider pretty evenly matched, Nevada's kicking woes could be their undoing Saturday.
The forecast in Reno still calls for snow Friday night, a chance of snow Saturday with a high near 40.
