Hardly ever post around here anymore. But those that know me from my old days, I still do cover the Pitt, WVU and Duquesne beats.
Throw beating UNC and getting trashed by Maryland away; and toss out Pitt's 14-1 record, and their trashing of MD.
This game comes down to the paint, rebounding and 3-pt shooting. While Pitt did thrash MD, they pushed on the glass at 26-a piece. So uncharacteristic of a Jamie Dixon team, but this is a team that lacks an inside presence right now. Talib never grew into the center JD and company thought he would be. He's a turnover machine that is making up for numbers on garbage points at this time. Michael Young will be a stud in my opinion, but he is too raw and unprepared in his freshman campaign sans Aaron Gray, NOT Dejuan Blair. Jamel Artis looks like a solo duck spinning in circles most of the time.
Wake has more experienced, more rebound-conditioned in their front court. The problem with Wake is their shooting. However, Pitt can be/always will be spotty shooters themselves. Lamar Patterson is an X factor that will get his, but somebody else has to step up and I doubt you can count on James Robinson. Josh Newkirk had a good game against Maryland and his finding his role at Pitt, but he will NOT see the minutes to be a factor today.
Bottom line is I think the rebounding and inside game will go to Wake today.
Obviously Wake at +14 is desirable, but +890 on the moneyline is worth a sawbuck or two.
