I told my buddy before the start of the season, "We are going to cash on the Loyola Ramblers this year" I'm 4-0 on them this year. Could of blindly bet em every game and cashed nicely on their 6-1 ats record. I laid off their last game for it was their first DD spread as a fav and I was feeling the books were finally getting privy to how good this team is. In a slow tempo'd game Wisc-Milwaukee kept themselves in the game. Then the cream rose to the top and the Ramblers won by 16 covering the -11.5.
The Ramblers haven't had a road game since Nov 26th, now they travel a whole whooping 4 or 5 miles to the near west side to the UIC pavilion. Whenever these Chicago schools play each other I kinda laugh whenever the visiting team is referred to as a "road" team. There's only 2 things that could happen to make this a rough trip:
1. The bus gets stuck in the snow and they show up late
2. The bus gets held up at gun point while at a red light.
UIC just played at DePaul on the "road" where they were 8pt dogs. Depaul's AdjEM is -2.43. Loyola's AdjEM is +3.11 and the spread is 7? UIC did win that one in the end, Depaul simply "Depauled" that game. 6 minutes into the game the Flames lost their best player to a knee injury...
UIC's rotation will have a different look on Saturday after sophomore Dikembe Dixson sustained a season-ending knee injury just six minutes into the game against the Blue Demons. The Preseason All-Horizon League honoree entered Wednesday's game ranked 19th in the NCAA with 22.2 points per game and as the top rebounder for the Flames.
Not only was he their best rebounder, but he lead in minutes per game, points per game, 3 pointers per game, and free throws made per game. On top of that this is one of the youngest rosters in hoops. UIC has used 9 different players in 10 games in their starting rotation. Only 3 of them started all 10 games and Dixson was one of them.
The Ramblers get down on D, they have a .892 opponent effective possession ratio, 33rd in hoops. But on the "road" they sport a .880 o.e.p.r. which is the 13th best on the road. Their 4 road games were against Saint Joseph's, Oral Roberts, Washington State and N.C. State.
Now you're going a few miles down the street to face a young team, who just lost their best player, and is still tinkering with rotations? Did I mention they also average 16.2 turnovers per game? That's 324th in hoops. They have a .753 assist to turnover ratio as well, 306th in hoops.
- Earlier this week, Loyola received a vote for the Associated Press Top 25 Poll, marking the first time it has received votes since finishing the 1984-85 season ranked No. 14.
Loyola has been a fav 3 times this year covering all 3 games and winning by an avg of 18 points. They were in 4 games this year with no spread where they won by an average of 31.25 points.
UIC played an exhausting game vs DePaul. Look for them to let down after that comeback win.
