Anyone seen this team play? I watched them win the WAC championship, and they looked pretty good! 18-2 in their last 20, lost a bunch of non conference games early, but played new mexico tough in the 2nd of a back to back....
looked like they had a couple guys who could really ball... plus havin Sim Bhullar down low is HUGE,,,wish he could get up and down the court a lil quicker, but hey take ur time big man!! just make it back in time to center the 2-3zone!!
just wondering if anyone has any insight on this team, Im thinkin they could shock the world and do some work in the toughest bracket out there!!

I like them getting 9. There are some similarities as far as both teams playing fairly slow pace, and getting to the line and inside for high pct shots. NMST probably has an edge in rebounding and interior defense. Wouldn't be a total shock if they win an ugly 55-50 type game.

NMSU alum here so take that in mind. NMSU's strength is that they get to the free throw line a lot and they rebound very well with a 7'5" player (watch the hilarity of the opening tip off) that presents unique matchup problems as one can expect. They typically play to the level of competition so the fact that the game vs. Texas-Arlington was close doesn't surprise me. They did take control of the second half.
Their weakness is shooting and defending the 3s and committing sloppy turnovers due to their suspect guard play. From what I have seen STL does not shoot 3s deadly but does cause lots of turnovers which given how slow Sim Bhullar is makes me worried about cheap fast break points.
I am laying off this game but I could easily see something like what JayBiz has mentioned. FWIW I like this matchup for them more than what I liked vs. Indiana last year as a 13 seed and vs. Michigan State 3 years ago as a 12 seed. I don't think they will win but time will tell.

They controlled the game against Arlington? Must have been watching a different game I was watching.....it was a 2 or 3 possession game for 7 of the last 8 mins of the game.

I have St L in a teaser PK to win 65-52.
I agree that it was a 2 or 3 possession game for much of the last 8 minutes. NMSU was up by double digits much of the early part of the second half and then got complacent which is unfortunately typical of them. They play to the level of competition and for whatever reason thought of UTA as "lesser" then them.
