North Carolina has lost 4 games this year, all to fellow ACC squads. The biggest question to this game is can Michigan State slow UNC down... unlike UConn they can't run up and down the court as UNC's big men have a lot more speed. I believe that there are 3 key matchups involved with this game. First and foremost can Michigan State stop Ty Lawson from penetrating? In the first match up Lawson torched the MSU guards. If he is able to penetrate Ellington and Green will have field days similar to Villanova. Lucas will have to hold his own on the defensive end, and he just may as he is one of the quickest pg's in the country aside from Lawson.
Secondly, can Travis Walton shut down Ellington? He sure shut down AJ Price holding him to 5-20 from the field... the big difference I see here is the height advantage Ellington has. Ellington is 2 inches taller and may be able to shoot over the top of Walton. He has done a great job of the tournament creating his own shots, and Walton will have to keep him in check.
Third- Can MSU succeed against the length of UNC? MSU was able to suceed against UConn because their big men don't have the speed to run for 40 minutes. Thabeet and Adrien were left gasping at half court half of the time and that really hurt, especially without depth to come off the bench like UNC has in Zeller, Davis etc. UNC has done a great job holding their opponents to a low 3 point % and I believe that is partially because of their great length. Guys like Danny Green and Ellington stepping out to get a hand up greatly effects the smaller guards. If MSU does not shoot 40% from downtown they may have a lot of trouble.
Michigan State has been great, and are clearly better than the first meeting, and have Suton back and playing solid basketball. They have the coaching advantage with Izzo has has been brilliant throughout the tournament. Again this is going to come down to Michigan State stopping dribble penetration from Lawson, and I can't see them being successful. I think they will have to go to zone, and that may open up the outside shooting.
I think that the Heels cover the -7.5... even if it comes down the stretch I think UNC hits the FT's to cap it off. It has been a fun season, and hopefully ends with a great game.

You know all the NC haters will tell you that they got "lucky" with OK and NOva shooting so poorly from 3. It had nothing to do with that "no defense" they play.

Obviously. Nova missed some wide open threes but I think the length that UNC has with the exception of Lawson can really effect teams, especially those that rely on the three point shot

U left out that unc is not deep at all. They play 7 peeps. U have starting 5 and frasor and davis but those 2 guys are not scary at all. Its the staretrs that are scary. MSU can go 9-10 deep. We do not have a go to guy and multiple player son and off bench can step up. eahc and every game someone new can step it up form morgan, summers. walton, lucas, allen, lucious, suton, green and etc... Key matchup is too se eif sparty can wear down unc with its depth like vs uconn. if they can unc might get tired elast half of 2nd half and hope msu can run them down. Destiny and pride of a struggling state/city is msyu side too.

How can you say Ed Davis is not scary? They have also been playing Zeller a lot more during the last few games (although he is no real threat) I agree though their best bet is to get some of UNC's big time players into foul trouble.
As for getting UNC tired... MSU is not looking to push the ball against UNC like they did against UConn... if they do... it is a death trap

I see your boy Joba has to pitch in AA to get his confidence up
His confidence seems fine to me. Bucholz is down there as well. He looked fantastic his last spring start. Yanks rotation will not be lacking any confidence at all. Now, what is with you starting a bigeast/acc thread just because there is no big east teams in the final game? The big east was far more impressive than the acc theres no argument. Thats insane. If i hear one more time about comparing the bottom halves of conferences.. Who gives a fuck. You know, ive always supported coach k and duke over unc by alot. I know your a fan so.. why the fuck are you on unc? I dont get it. Wouldnt you rather just bet mich st and pray you win instead of having to root for the heels? Just so you know, unc winning the title doesnt exactly do great things for duke recruiting

I am a UVA fan firstly (and yes they are horrible) and pull for Duke secondly because my uncles went to Duke. When they are both eliminated I just pull for the conference. The only reason I created a thread is because 900 people created Big East threads after the first round directed towards me. So now that there are zero Big East teams left I returned the favor. All in fun though... a few people get a littttttttle to carried away. Maybe my friend bigeastexpert can help me cap the NCAA women's final

I think this game comes down to two simple factors: motivation/preparation. MSU took an ass-pounding from UNC earlier this year in Detroit...and afterwards, vowed they'd never play like (shit) again. In the following months, MSU demonstrated their ambitions by upsetting some of the leagues best teams with intense dedication, preparation and multiple IZZO-adjustments...all for the opportunity to take back what UNC stole from them earlier this year - in DETROIT.
Meanwhile, UNC strolled through the remainder of their season with ease. The truth is, they are HUGELY talented - but everybody knows (and expects) that - which has been known to make teams vulnerable in some cases. I'm not suggesting that UNC doesn't care, just that they aren't expecting the level of intensity that MSU has coming.
Now 100% healthy and clicking on all cylinders, MSU's under dog status works to their own advantage. Playing the game with such high efficiency (almost as if they are "possessed"), this is MSU's coveted opportunity to WIN back the respect they lost earlier this year..........................in Detroit.
This is gonna be one HELLLLLLL of a game to watch my friends. May the best team win.
