Terps cover another one yesterday and we are at the point in the ACC schedule where you start to have what feels like a pretty good handle on each team. Tonight we have a big one as Dook visits Wake. I have been impressed with both teams this season. Dook for obvious reasons.....they have not won an ACC game by less than nine points, they share the ball so well, they play with alot of tenacity and they are typically very hot from outside where they like to score most of their points.
I have been impressed by Wake for good reason also, some of then not as obvious. Wake lost their coach in the off-season, a great guy who died unexpectedly. They have come together and played hard. They are young but have alot of talent. They are fairly balanced, have a decent ACC record considering what they have to work with and are on the outside of the Dance bubble looking in at this point......but they still have a shot with a strong finish. They looked great against FSU on the road the other night. They also love playing at home.
Wake is one of the place in the ACC that is underrated as far as tough venues to play in. Wake really needs a statement win and what better place to try and get it but at home on Sunday night in front of the entire country. Dook has played very well but other than the BC game last weekend, they have not really had that letdown game yet....the stinker that sees them in a tight battle with an inferior opponent. There have been some classic battles between these teams at Wake over the last ten years, several that I remember as instant classics. Did I say that this is the perfect opportunity for Wake to get the resume stamping win????
Neither team has a huge advantage over the other in rebounding, though Wake will likely do a little better. Wake has forward Johnson and a handful of guards that should keep them from being too lopsided in any one style of play. Dook counters with a very good guard in DeMarcus and a trio of big men that like to shoot the three. Wake's ability to contain Singler, especially on the perimeter is probabaly the single largest key to the game. Dook is excellent at drive penetration, then the kick to the perimeter and Singler single-handily won the Terp/Dook game by hitting tons of open three balls. I still that shit in my sleep!
Wake is one of the teams in the ACC that loves to play at home. All of the teams like to but some of the ACC teams really excel there. Wake is 13-1 at home this season. They play much better defense at home, shoot the ball better and really feed off the emotion. I will say that emotion will only get the Deacs so far tonight. When all is said and done, they will need more than a loud crowd. But of they shoot like they did at FSU Thursday, this one is tight the entire way. Dook will extend the D on them further out than they have seen all season BUT this wake team shoots over 46% at home so Dook will have thier hands full.
Again Dook is the better team no doubt. I just think that at some point, these lines are getting a bit ridiculous. This will be the Dookies third toughest road test in conference play all season and I think they are due for a close one.
I love Wake +10. Might even put a bit on the ML for shits and giggles. Wake can win this game if they shoot well. Should be high scoring also and I like the over.

At some point as the season goes on, teams are going to turn the pressure WAY up on Dook's weakest ball-handling link......Greg Paulus. I think that if a team put their most athletic defender on that goof ball that they could create some additional easy baskets and keep the Dookies from getting into much of a flow on offense as quick. He is adequate when he gets the easy trip up the court with moderate to low pressure. he's decent even whne they get him the open three look. But he CANNOT create his own shot at all. He's not quick enough to do.

Even my Terps blew the opportunity to REALLY pressure Paulus so he came up the court more or less unmolested. I wish that we had used a Cliff Tucker or Adrian Bowie on him, someone either long or athletic...or both. Paulus gets a free pass too often against teams and I think if you are going to beat them, he needs to go through hell.

He gets so much press being on a great team but realistically if he played for a GT or FSU or NCSU, they'd talk about how bad he sucked....because he does.

Are they changing the Maryland team colors to light green and dark green? If Maryland had a true point that allowed Vasquez to move to his natural two spot your twerps might make a run in the tourney... How athletic do you want our 6 foot white point guard to be? We have plenty of athletes like Nelson,Henderson, and Nolan Smith. The point is for smarts something Maryland has always lacked. Still lots of hugs ACC

lol, lol. I don't want or expect him to be any more athletic. But that being a given, as he it was he is, the hype he gets is ONLY bacuase the Dookies are so good.
We do have a true point guard. The beauty of having Hayes and Vas on the floor is that both can play the 1 or the 2. Hayes is actaully more of a true point guard and I asume Gary feels Vas gets us into the offense a bit better right now. I don't think we miss much with either of those guys handling the ball as both are like top 6 in assist in ACC play. No other team can say that.
I do agree that I would like to see the General play the 2. Perhaps in time but for now I am just enjoying a season where we were picked to finish 6th in the conference and have come along nicely.

GL, dont burn your money on the ML though. Duke ML is a lock (lol just trying to start people that believe in Jinx' against me) I am starting to wonder if I should keep posting plays anyways, so Duke ML is my lock of a lifetime and if they lose I wont post for a month honestly though dont waste your $ on Wake ML, they will not win tonight

Yeah, I have 1500 on BC to win (750 each on a 3 team teaser and a 3 team ML parlay of BC Ohio State and UCLA) BC 6-0 run to start the second half, but Ohio State starting to look questionable
