This is not a knock on UNC...him and I are totaly cool...
I just am confused as to people and their "units". Most cappers on this site, good, bad, indifferent rarely seem to be 1 unit. To me, 1 unit is sort of a base bet. If your base bet is 200 bucks, then boom there is your unit.
All I ever see is 3-5 units or 10 units+ on games. Rarely do I see anyone betting base units. What gives here? What is the point of calling something a unit if you never bet 1 unit?
In the grand scheme of things this means nothing and really is not worth a thread I guess, but Im really stupified by these units. I havent made a bet over 3 units all year..and most people havent made a bet under 3 units.
Seems little point in declaring units when one doesnt unite their base unit as 1.

I completely agree Crus. Most of my bets are 1-2 units and from time to time I'll throw a 3-4 unit bet, but that doesn't happen often. I was wondering the same thing.

To answer your question I think it is because it "looks better" if you have 100 Units profit. But if your wager is 10 Units per play = it really equates to being up +10 Units.

I'm with you. I think alot of folks just throw these units around. I don't pretend to be a big time hot shot. I post very little (usually to answer a question, I know about). I'll post more when I earn the Creds. I do follow alot of you guys and really get some good stuff. Thanks for your efforts.
I bet $50 or $100 normally. So my unit is $50, I guess.

i have a good amount of 1 unit plays (6 of my 8 plays yesterday were 1 unit plays)
i try to be conservative unless there are games that pop out to me (like today - already 4 locked plays and all are over 1 unit plays) Just all depends.
But a lot of the guys here put up 10-20 units regualry which i dont get and not believable

I think some people may do it for show, but I also think that some people have other agendas...no idea what they are
I think they just do it for the WOW factor.
I don't understand how somebody can feel 20 times better about a bet. They still have to play the game and everybody has had a "sure bet" that lost. I would say 3 units is the absolute maximum I ever go. I don't have a problem with somebody putting a large bet, especially if they are up. But betting 3 times my normal amount is as much confidence as I can give. After that you are kidding yourself, IMO.
Good thread Crus. BTW, I like Temple tonight. Dayton just doesn't seem to bring the same intensity away from home. BOL

im up 31 units and actually upset about it...but my average bet, if I added up all my unit bets etc probably comes to about 1.3-1.4 units...an average of course...with 1 being my lowest (outside of a parlay or mL) and I think 2.75 being my highest...

I don't get it either. I saw a guy the other day that was under .500 and was +150 unist. Doesn't make any sense. All I look at is somebody's winning percentage. I guess what I'm saying is don't worry about another man's unit.

CrusCrnshaw, I think it can be answered this way. Somewhere in tout speak 1 unit became = $100 .
Of course to make themselves look like like their plays are bigger then they really are, the plays cant be 1 unit because who would ever want to play a 1 unit play. So these touts have 10 unit plays and 50 unit plays. Of couse it is all meaningless, it is just marketing.
Often you will see someone escalate their units when their plays lose to make them seem more important also. I HAVE A 1000 UNIT PICK!! people think it is a big play so they tail( or buy if it is a pay for play guy). Then when that play loses they need to go above and beyond to make their play sound important so they say I HAVE MY 1ST EVER 250 UNIT play!! And so on and so on till they end up having a 5 million unit play on the COLTS ML in the super bowl like Stu Feiner did this year.
Since everyone is a wanna be pay for play capper here(even if they will never admit it) they have 30 unit plays and 100 unit plays to make it sound exciting.
I agree with you completely 100%. Just make a play 1 unit for an average bet and let your win% take care of the rest. If you like it more make it 2 or 3 units.

Good topic. No doubt that multi-unit plays will attract more attention. I think that's part of the marketing agenda of some guys on this forum. The "look at me" mentality. Oddsbuster is notorious for his 20,50, and 100 unit plays, yet he's one of my favorite cappers here. Truth is I don't pay a lick of attention to how many units anyone is claiming to play. I'm just here to sort through the wealth of information (good and bad) and make my own decision on what I actually bet on. For the record, I'd guess that 80% of my plays are the same base amount.

Agreed. I bet the same on every play until tournament time for the most part. Sometimes I may double up on a game, but not often. I never understood how some people supposedly play 5 units on one game, and 50 units on another. I have never seen enough value in any one game to warrant a play that is 10 or 20 times my normal wager. It defintely reminds me of tout talk...
Come purchase my 50,000 unit Lock of the Year... lol.

The norm for 1 unit is 100 dollars, a lot of guys put 40 units or 50 units or whatever, a lot of times, its just for show, to get attention, it is easier to get attention by putting up all those crazy units, because the units can always go higher and higher, instead of putting " large " or " huge " because what if you lose those bets, what are you gonna put next , " super huge " " super super large " . So they just be putting crazy units instead, but not really betting all those units, its just for show, of course there are some big timers in here that really do play big, but I think, most of the guys that put up all those units aren't really playing that big, its just for show, for attention. Personally, the guys that plays a few units are easier to believe for me, and those are the guys I pay attention to, like CrusCrnshw himself, and Gamehunter, to name a few, and also pay attention to guys that dont put units, but sometimes have a large or huge play, and that's it, it doesn't go to super large or super huge.
