I'll keep this write up short as it's later in the day than I typically post--but I love the opportunity on an over tonight that is too low in my opinion based on recent head to head results
BYU/San Diego Over 147.5
This will be my third time jumping on a BYU over this year. And as previously mentioned in my other write-ups, despite losing POY Fredette to graduation, this offense has not skipped a beat. They come in scoring 1.111 pts per possession (#32) and play at the 11th fastest adjusted tempo in the country.
These two teams met on New Years Eve in Provo and played to a 88-52 final. The total that night closed at 147. So why is the posted total tonight a half point higher despite their first match-up only totaling 140? Very simple. San Diego shot 14-61 from the field that night, an awful 23%! If the Toreros could have shot 30% in their first match-up, the total would have gone over.
As already mentioned, BYU wants to play fast. And unlike past seasons, San Diego doesn't mind running either. They enter tonight averaging an above average 68.0 possessions per game (#137). However, what is even more significant is the fact that this team is by far the fastest team with respect to tempo during coach Bill Grier's tenure--including 3.5 possessions per game faster than last year.
There were 75 possessions per team in their first match-up. KenPom predicts 73 tonight. Based on this and the efficiency with which BYU is playing this year, I can see them getting close to the 90 point plateau again and we'd only need San Diego to get into the low 60's
