I just went for a eye exam and need glasses. Place I went to also sells glasses. I get my RX for the glasses and then ask for my pupillary distance. She asks if I am getting glasses online and I say yes. She then refuses to give me my pupillary distance. Fukers won't give me the info I need to order glasses.
My daughter wears glasses and we never had problems getting the distance for her. Unfortunately I decided to try the new eye place in my town.
Anyone run into this problem..I think it is bullsh it...I know I can measure it myself but would rather have it done by an eye specialist.

You go and pay for an exam (insurance or however) and you have a right to get the prescription you need for glasses. I don't know how any provider can withhold a prescription for glasses.
That said, lasik might be your friend. Did it 3 years ago and am pissed I didn't do it 15 years ago.

Just get a millimeter ruler and measure distance from
center of one pupil to center of the other.
so online glasses places will even send you a
special ruler to look through in mirror so you can do
it yourself
Thanks. They actually withheld a RX too. When we got home we realized one of mine was missing (I needed two and they gave me one.). We emailed them and they said they would mail it. I know they cannot withhold a RX. I have filed a complaint with the Board of Optometry with our state. I am sure nothing will be done by them but I figured I would give it a shot.

Here is the MD's reply to me not getting my RX (the one they withheld since I was not buying glasses from them) Very professional and helpful. Copy of email with names removed:
First: they were not withheld, I forgot to "input" them into the record last Thurs. - it was very busy.
I am only there on Wed. and Thurs, and I was not there this Wed., so I took care of it yesterday as noted in a previous e-mail to you.
Second: I will have ...... mail you ....'s "computer" Rx.
Third: If you get glasses through-the-mail don't expect me to get involved.
They are garbage and are not quality products - you get what you pay for!
Fourth: get your facts straight about the "PD" before you sound-off.
Lastly: DO NOT USE THIS E-MAIL AGAIN FOR ANY REASON - now blocked!

I work in the optical industry, if what you're saying is true, this office should lose its medical license, file a complaint immediately with your state department of health.
But you shouldn't buy glasses online, that is correct, if your rx is off even a fraction, you can cause damage to your eyes.
If you want to save some bucks go to a place like Lenscrafters.

Yes, hard to believe but all true.I filed a complaint with the Board of Optometry in our state. We have always bought our daughter's glasses at For Eyes and have had good luck with them. Plus they are much more reasonable on their prices.
