Sports gambling getting some rare publicity, they usually like to pretend it doesnt even exist.....

I have had several conversations with an extremely genuine and nice old man at a local watering hole who shared many Billy Walters stories with me. He is a retired car salesman now, but while working, the old man met Billy on several occasions.
Listening to someone talk in a bar usually bores me to death after 15 minutes, but I could easily listen to the old man tell horse and gambling stories all day.

Since sports betting still has a stigma about it, I would venture to say that it is more fluff than substance. They will prorobably try to dumb it down for the piker audience, but we shall see.

I saw it on the web, and I think that was 60 minutes that just ran that story within the last month or so.

One very revealing aspect of the story is that Billy DOES NOT have to be very good at betting. If he breaks even for a year, he is still in GREAT shape. This is due to his ownership of golf courses and car lots, where he is making big money without as much risk.
And this brings me back to the story I was sharing above about an old man in a local watering hole that knew a lot about Billy. The reason he did was that Billy sold fleet cars to him and he had a huge inventory on his lot. But BIlly let him in on some inside information that the corporation that he was doing business with was going to shut the old man's business down.
So the old man reduced the prices on most of his inventory at a small profit margin just so he would not get stuck with the vehicles. And for this, the old man justifiably has the utmost respect today for Billy Walters as a person.

Billy Walters bets a ton offshore.
Every week I listen to someone "behind the counter" who is offshore say things like "walters just hit XXXXX" or "this is a headfake by walters group".....

Totally agree, to the point that it made my skin crawl hearing him describe it.
But I do think he does it.
My guess is, he has ways to bet very small to move a line. For instance, if a known winner bets small, sometimes a line will move - so maybe he has these situations set up where he can move a line a point with 10K, and then bet 300K the other way.
But thats just a guess.
