This is a pretty lame week in college football. Probably the lamest I can think of for a Week 2 in recent seasons.
So let's focus on what was awesome last week: My 3-1 record.
OK, that's enough focus. On to this week's picks. Miami Hurricanes at Kansas State Wildcats (-7, 58)
Over the years of doing College Four-Play
, the most venomous hate mail and comments typically come from Miami supporters. I don't know why. They only get about 17 people going to their games these days.
But I'd like to start things off on the right foot this year. And I loved the way Stephen Morris went 28-of-45 last week for 207 yards. Pick:
Miami +7 East Carolina Pirates at South Carolina Gamecocks (-21, 51)
Ben Maller of Yahoo!Sports
tweeted us Thursday night to say Steve Spurrier is 44-0 overall and 18-0 straight up at South Carolina against schools in non-automatic qualifier conferences in the BCS.
For bettors, the numbers are a little more disappointing. Spurrier is actually 6-9 against the spread in those games at South Carolina (three of those games didn't have lines). Pick:
East Carolina +21Fresno State Bulldogs at Oregon Ducks (-35, 77.5)
Oregon players received possibly the worst news in school history this week: The school will begin random drug testing on its athletes.
It's all because of this story that appeared in ESPN The Magazine in April
, which features an unnamed Ducks football player "taking a hit" off some "Purple Kush".
Are you sure you want to do this Oregon? Really?
I think the news will be too devastating for the players to overcome against Fresno State this week. Pick:
Fresno State +35 Nebraska Cornhuskers at UCLA Bruins (+5, 62)
A 66-year-old woman is suing the Bo Pelini Foundation this week, claiming she suffered injuries during a gauntlet drill at the Foundation's Football 101 camp
in June. The camp is designed to give women an opportunity to learn more about the game and build the school's female fan base.
The woman, Beverley Morgan, claims she suffered brain and rotator cuff injuries during the drill, both of which required surgery.
I am taking two things from this:
1. UCLA is going to feel like Beverley Morgan after this game - injured and knowing little more about football than when the day began.
2. Don't ever try to force a woman to like football. Pick:
