MINNEAPOLIS -- A monster top of the third inning by the Detroit Tigers staked the visitors to a big lead against the Minnesota Twins on Friday night at Target Field. Eight straight Tigers reached base in a seven-run inning as Detroit hammered Minnesota 10-6.

Detroit third baseman Nick Castellanos blasted a two-run homer in the second inning and followed with an RBI single in the third. The home run was his third of the season. Outfielder Torii Hunter also had two hits and drove in a pair of runs with a two-run single in the third. By the time the frame was over, Detroit had nine runs and 11 hits.

Twins starting pitcher Kevin Correia was hit hard early and often. The righty lasted only 2 1/3 innings, allowing eight runs -- seven of them earned -- on eight hits and two walks.

Tigers starter Rick Porcello allowed three hits and a run in the second inning but set down eight Twins batters in a row to get through five innings in 76 pitches but ran into trouble in the sixth, allowing a leadoff home run to Twins second baseman Brian Dozier, a single to first baseman Joe Mauer and a walk to third baseman Trevor Plouffe before leaving the game. He went five-plus innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

The Twins rally that started off Porcello continued off right-handed reliever Justin Smith. Right fielder Chris Colabello drove an RBI single to center and left fielder Jason Kubel blasted a run-scoring double off the wall in left center -- his second double of the night -- to make it 10-4 before Kurt Suzuki added a sac-fly to make it a five-run game.

Plouffe drove in another run with his league-leading 10th double in the seventh to make it 10-6, but the Twins would get no closer.

Porcello earned the win, improving to 3-1 on the year. Correia dropped to 0-3.
