NFL Prop Shop: Week 5's best player prop bets
The doors to the NFL Prop Shop are opening for Week 5 wagering. Check out Covers Expert Sean Murphy’s favorite player prop picks for Sunday’s action:
Most passing yards
Blaine Gabbert (Jacksonville Jaguars) vs. Sam Bradford (St. Louis Rams)
Everyone likes to hate on the Jaguars and QB Blaine Gabbert in particular. However, I'm willing to give him a shot in the underdog role this week. Gabbert gets back his best weapon as WR Justin Blackmon has served his four-game suspension. He'll also be facing a less-than-stout Rams pass defense that has allowed just shy of eight years per pass attempt this season.
Sam Bradford has seen his passing yardage decrease in each of his last three games. And how about how little highly-touted WR Tavon Austin has produced, topping out at 47 receiving yards through four games?
Matt Stafford (Detroit Lions) vs. Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers)
It’s somewhat surprising to see Rodgers as the underdog in this matchup. I guess the common line of thinking is that Matt Stafford will be airing it out early and often - as has been the case all season.
I'm just not sure he'll find a ton of success against a Packers defense that will be looking to make a statement against a divisional foe. Rodgers should have a field day against a very beatable Lions secondary. With a healthy receiving corps to work with, he's nearly impossible to stop at Lambeau.
Most rushing yards
Jamaal Charles (Kansas City Chiefs) vs. Chris Johnson (Tennessee Titans)
I expect to see the Titans offense struggle to move the football in Jake Locker's absence and that has a trickle-down effect to Chris Johnson and the ground game.
The Chiefs can afford to sell out against the run, knowing that Ryan Fitzpatrick is mistake-prone under center.
While I do like the physicality the Titans defense brings to the table, this isn't a shut-down unit by any means, giving up 4.3 yards per rush on the season. Having yet to run for 100 yards in a game this season, Charles is in line for a breakout performance.
Most pass receptions
DeSean Jackson (Philadelphia Eagles) vs. Victor Cruz (New York Giants)
More offensive plays mean more opportunities for DeSean Jackson. I'll back him in this matchup with Giants go-to guy Victor Cruz Sunday.
While the Eagles up-temp offense has sputtered lately, it should be in good position to bounce back against a struggling Giants defense this week. Jackson has burned the G-Men in the past and I'm not convinced they'll have an answer for him.
Cruz caught 10 passes in Kansas City last week after being held to only three in Carolina the week previous. There's no question the Eagles will be keying on him in preparation for this week's showdown.
