NBA action report: Bettors slowly taking OKC at 2-1 pace

Following a busy Memorial Day weekend in Las Vegas, books are experiencing a slower pace Tuesday, especially at the window.

According to Jeff Stoneback, sportsbook manager for the MGM Mirage, bets are coming in at a snail’s pace for Game 2 of the Western Conference finals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs Tuesday night.

Most markets are dealing the Spurs as 5-point home favorites, while some – like MGM – are still sitting at 4.5. Stoneback says that while the ticket count is low, bettors are taking the visiting Thunder at a 2-1 rate.

“So far it’s just smaller, public bets,” he told Covers. “I don’t think we’ve taken a bet over $2,000 so far.”

Game 1 of the Western Conference semis took in an even ticket split between the two sides, but had more big-money wagers on San Antonio. The Spurs were 6-1 ATS through their first seven postseason games but have failed to cover in their last two outings and looked vulnerable in their 101-98 win over Oklahoma City as 5.5-point home chalk.

Stoneback points to two reasons why the action has been slower for Game 2, stating that the series opener happened on the weekend and that sharps tend to unload on Game 1 of a series due to the unknown factors. Lines become so fine over the course of a seven-game set that value on both the spread and total are hard to come by.

As for the total for Tuesday's game, books opened the number as low as 201 points. That has moved to 202 at some markets. Game 1 played under the 204-point total. San Antonio is 2-7 over/under in the postseason while Oklahoma City is 7-3 over/under in the playoffs.

My theory/guess is the $ is coming in at a snail's pace because of the miracle cover,/3 3-pointers in the last 17 seconds for OKC. Everyone's more cautious this time around

Unknown error.
