Ice picks: Tuesday's best NHL bets

Winnipeg Jets at Florida Panthers (-155, 5)

Thanks to a critical point earned in a shootout loss to Detroit on Sunday, Florida can clinch a playoff berth by beating visiting Winnipeg.

But the Panthers aren’t exactly clicking offensively. They have mustered 14 regulation goals in their past nine games and went 0 for 6 on the power play against the Red Wings. Tomas Fleischmann has four goals in the last seven games, but no one else is producing.

Winnipeg, meanwhile, has nothing to play for. The Jets were eliminated from playoff contention with their 4-3 overtime loss at Tampa Bay on Saturday night.

The under is 5-0-4 in the Panthers’ last nine games, and 14-4 in the last 18 Jets-Panthers meetings in Florida.

Pick: Under

San Jose Sharks at Dallas Stars (-105, 5)

Dallas is desperate for revenge after falling 3-0 at HP Pavilion to San Jose on Saturday – a loss that dropped the Stars to ninth in the Western Conference.

Dallas can leapfrog San Jose with a win Tuesday, and is glad to see the Sharks again so soon. The Stars are trying to make the playoffs for the first time in four years.

"They got the jump and set us back a little bit right away," Dallas coach Glen Gulutzan said of Saturday’s loss. "We have a big game with these guys on Tuesday and our fate is in our hands. It's got to be the mindset of do or die."

The Stars should get a boost from the return of physical winger Eric Nystrom, who missed the last three games with a leg laceration caused by a skate blade.

San Jose has lost its last five road games against teams with winning home marks. And the home team is 4-0 in the last four Sharks-Stars clashes.

Pick:
Stars

Does anyone need any more proof what an idiot Phuy-neuf of the Leafs is? In a 5-5 overtime game, he shoots the puck in the crowd and gets 2 minutes for delay of game. Sure enough, Buffalo scores on the ensuing power play - Game Over. This Bonehead (captain???)should be traded to Columbus for a pair of rubber boots and a bag of charcoal. Un-frigginbelievable.

L.A. Kings record a shutout against Edmonton last night. D'oh! There were 56 shots on net in that game and all I could get was 2 goals? Hmmm. Not even close to my over 5. Douche. For Tuesday's play, I'll go to the Over 5.5 well again in the Ottawa game. The Senators are scoring in bunches lately, and Ward for Carolina is 1-4 in the last 5 vs. Senators with a 3.74 GAA. Maybe Ottawa is in his head. Who knows. I'll try it. Play #1 Car/Ott Over 5.5 (-120)......Risk 2.40u........Win 2.00u.......Mon./-2.00u (L.A.K. Over 5)...........Season +6.40u.....GLTA.

After a day off yesterday, I have 1 bet today on the OVER 6 in the Penguins/Bruins game. We have not seen to many Totals of 6 this year in hockey, like in past years. But the Flyers/Penguins game on Sunday had the Total listed at 6, and it ended up with 10 goals in that game..........The Penguins have gone OVER 8 games in a row and gone Over in 11 of their last 12 games. In those 8 Overs in a row, the Penguins have not scored less then 3 goals in a game and in 6 of those 8 Overs, the Penguins either scored 4 (two times), 5 (three times) or 8 goals (once. This alone is a strong enough trend for me to play the Over tonight. Also, the most recent meeting of these 2 teams was on March 11th, which was BEFORE Crosby came back for Pitt, and that score was a 5-2 Pens victory..........Another good sign for the OVER tonight is that both #2 goalies are going = Marty Turco for Boston and Brent Johnson for Pittsburgh. Johnson has made only 7 starts for the Penguins this season and he just came off the Injured List a few days ago and he started last Thursday for the first time in over a month, where he gave up 3 goals to Buffalo. On the other side is Marty Turco, who Boston signed when Rask got injured. He has played in only 4 games (3 starts) here in the last month and now he faces a Penguins team loaded with offense.............And then a weird stat of the day is the Bruins have alternated Over-Under in their last 10 games (actually one was a Push on 5 instead of an Under). And since Sunday's game vs the Rangers went Under for Boston, that means tonight should be an Over, right? No, that is not why I am on the Under but I am riding the trend on the Overs in Penguins' games and taking my chance tonight with these 2 back-up goalies....................OVER 6 (-115) Penguins vs BRUINS, to win 1 unit. ..........Good Luck to us all!

I was getting long winded in my earlier write-up but also worth noting is.........The Penguins and Bruins are The Top 2 scoring teams in the entire NHL with 268 and 259 goals scored respectively. And both of the goalies tonight (Johnson and Turco) have career losing records against tonight's opponent as well as career Goals Against Averages above 3.25 against tonight's opponent.
