Mike Vick has bounced back from the four-interception disaster at Buffalo three games ago to post two outstanding performances against divisional opponents in the last two weeks, throwing 18/31 for 237 yards, one TD and one interception with 7/54/0 rushing at Washington on October 16th, and then 21/28 for 279 yards, two TDs and zero interceptions with 7/50/0 rushing vs. Dallas on October 30th. During the two-game winning streak, he's thrown at Brent Celek the most (18 targets for 11/136/2), followed by DeSean Jackson (12 for 6/77/0), Jeremy Maclin (10 for 8/155/2) and Jason Avant (nine for 8/102/0). Right now, the Eagles' offense is hogging the clock from game to game, with 42:09 time of possession vs. Dallas and 38:08 at Washington. It's all good for Philadelphia on offense right now, as they are moving the ball virtually at will in both phases of the game.
The Bears' pass D is ranked 28th in the NFL right now, averaging 271.9 net yards allowed per game, with 11 passing scores given up over seven contests vs. eight interceptions (tied for 10th in the NFL) and just 15 sacks (tied for 22nd) generated to date. Tampa Bay posted 29/52 for 250 net yards, two TDs and four interceptions vs. Chicago two weeks ago; Minnesota scraped up 28/42 for 233 net yards, zero TDs and zero interceptions back on October 16th. Mike Vick and company are far better in this phase of the game than Tampa or Minnesota - this looks like a great matchup for the home team. Jay Cutler has played steady and productive football during his last three starts, with 66/101 for 742 yards, four TDs and two interceptions passing. He did throw both interceptions during the victory at Tampa Bay in week seven (17/32 for 226 yards, one TD and two interceptions), but he's been a decent QB during October. Roy Williams started to make his presence felt in week seven, with five targets for 4/59/1 (Williams led the team in receiving at Tampa), while Johnny Knox (six for 3/53/0) and Devin Hester (nine for 4/46/0) help move the chains from week to week. The Bears' offense is on an even keel coming into this showdown at Philadelphia.
The Eagles kicked Dallas around at Lincoln Financial Field 34-7 on Sunday night, allowing 18/35 for 182 net yards, one TD and one interception to the Tony Romo and the Cowboys (who only held the ball for 17:51 during the game). Before the bye week seven, Philadelphia limited Washington to 17/37 for 245 net yards, zero TDs and four interceptions passing, and the Redskins only had the ball for 21:52 during the game - lately, the Eagles' offense has controlled the ball for exceptionally long drives which is really helping the defense out. To date, the Eagles' secondary averages 212.3 net yards allowed per game (10th in the NFL), with 12 passing scores given up balanced by eight interceptions (10th in the NFL) and 22 sacks (sixth in the NFL)generated. The secondary has really turned their performance around during October. Chicago comes into this game off a bye, so Matt Forte (25/145/1 rushing with 2/38/0 receiving vs. Tampa Bay during week seven) and Marion Barber (6/39/1 rushing vs. Tampa) should be well rested after their labors down at Raymond James Stadium two weeks ago. Over the last three games played by Chicago, Forte has seen 64/348/1 rushing with 18 targets for 12/109/0 receiving (5.4 yards per carry and 9.1 yards per reception), while Barber has carried the ball for 18/74/2 and seen three targets for 2/10/0 receiving (4.1 yards per carry and 5.0 per reception). The duo is forming a nice 1-2 punch. The Eagles allowed 10/85/0 rushing to the Cowboys. Before the bye week seven, Philadelphia limited Washington to 14/42/1 rushing and the Redskins only had the ball for 21:52 during the game - lately, the Eagles' offense has controlled the ball for exceptionally long drives which is really helping the defense out. To date, the Eagles rank 19th in the NFL averaging 118.3 rushing yards allowed per game, with six rushing TDs allowed over seven games, but they've been playing better than their season average indicates of late.
Philadelphia's offense has been playing a strong ball-control scheme in recent weeks, and it is really paying off for them. LeSean McCoy last week had (30/185/2 rushing with 2/15/0 receiving) and Michael Vick (7/50/0 rushing) helped the team pile up an astounding 38/239/2 rushing vs. the then-top-ranked Dallas rush defense. McCoy posted against the Skins 28/126/1 rushing with 2/13/0 receiving and Vick again ran for around 50 yards (7/54/0 that week). The Eagles are leveraging their top-ranked rushing attack (averaging 5.8 yards per carry and 179.9 yards per game) into a dominant position in time of possession from week to week.
The Bears' rush D is currently 12th in the NFL averaging 108.7 yards allowed per game, with just four rushing scores given up over seven contests. Tampa Bay was held to 11/30/0 rushing back in week seven; Adrian Peterson and Minnesota could only manage 17/53/1 at Chicago during week six. These guys are playing shut-down type run defense as of the first of November. The Eagle's number one ranked rush offense has a lot of momentum, but the Bears' defense is playing great football right now and they will be well rested for this contest. Keep in mind though Dallas had the number 1 unit last week and got blasted by the Eagles. Don't be surprised if Philly dominates in the aspect of the game once again.
I thought Raymond James is in Tampa, not London. |
