The NFL secured a Spanish betting partner ahead of its maiden voyage to Spain on Nov. 16.
Online betting company bwin was announced on Friday as the “Official Sports Betting Partner of the NFL in Spain.”
Key Takeaways
- bwin has a strong European presence and has worked with top soccer clubs
- The NFL will have its first game in Spain in November
- Paddy Power earlier this week was announced as the NFL’s partner in Ireland and the U.K.
bwin is a respected European bookmaker that has partnered with soccer teams such as Real Madrid, AC Milan, Inter Milan, and many others. Now, the bookmaker is lending its name to the NFL as the league prepares to venture into another new country for the first time.
The multi-year agreement will see bwin increase its focus on growing the popularity of football in Spain. It will also host exclusive activations and offer special promotions and custom content starting with the NFL’s Spain debut later in the fall.
The November matchup will feature the Washington Commanders and Miami Dolphins at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, the iconic 84,000-seat venue and home of Real Madrid.
“We’re thrilled to be hosting our first-ever regular season NFL game in Madrid in November and are delighted to have bwin on board as a new partner in the market, helping to create unique and exciting experiences for our growing fan base in Spain,” said Brett Gosper, NFL Head of Europe and APAC.
Expanding the global reach
On top of receiving exclusive opportunities, bwin will hold the title of the NFL’s Official Sports Betting Partner in Spain for Super Bowl LX.
“Partnering with the NFL is an exciting milestone for bwin in Spain, in a year when the league is celebrating its first game in Spain at the Santiago Bernabéu, one of the great temples of world sport,” said Curry Sloan, Managing Director for Canada, Iberia, and Latin America. “As one of the world’s most exciting sports leagues, the NFL shares our passion for competition, entertainment, and fan engagement.
“Together, we will deliver unforgettable experiences and bring fans in Spain even closer to the action, always with a focus on safe and responsible gaming.”
The NFL’s venture to Spain is part of its international series, which was designed to grow football’s global profile. The league also has games scheduled in Brazil, Ireland, England, and Germany.
The league next year will also put on a game in Melbourne, Australia, marking its first venture to the APAC region.
NFL secures partners in Ireland, UK
bwin isn’t the only international company to announce a partnership deal with the NFL this week.
Flutter Entertainment-owned Paddy Power revealed on Wednesday it had struck an agreement to become the league’s Official Sportsbook Partner within the U.K. and Ireland in the build-up to a Sept. 28 showdown in Dublin between the Minnesota Vikings and Pittsburgh Steelers, which is also the NFL’s first game in Ireland.
