Hot take here. At the end of last season/start of this season I was baffled by the hiring of Glenn as a head coach.
The Detroit Lions, while having talented players in the secondary, were not great on defense. In 2024 they were ranked 20th in overall defense giving up 324 yards per game on average. Despite having a ball hawking defense that created turnovers, they specialized in playing a soft zone that basically allowed receivers to catch the ball first and run wild all over the field. All the while they were picked apart repeatedly by high powered offenses. I always felt personally that their defense is what kept them from being the best team in the NFL…
At the beginning of the season I had predicted that the Lions would actually get better on defense without him. Now he stands on the sidelines coaching an extremely undisciplined football team in the Jets, who along with a few others are quickly becoming the laughing stock of the NFL. The look on his face says it all. He looks completely baffled, confused, and quite honestly useless. He’s never shown talking with the other coaches. He doesn’t hold a clipboard or tablet. He doesn’t appear to call any plays. He just…stands there. Maybe the Jets thought he would have the ra ra affect that Dan Campbell had.
It just goes to show the desperation in the league to find a competent coach. And quite honestly, the game suffers because of the lack of them.

When you hire a Defensive Coach who doesn't seem to help the Defense get better things can go south quickly....And I think it's safe to say at 0-4 it's bad...

Defensive coaches will always struggle in the modern game. Creative play calling and explosive plays is and has been the key for years now. Even the top defensive units (Cleveland) can’t do much to stop the best offensive units (Detroit).
