Getting Orange Boxed by Bovada

Bodog was my main book about 10 years ago when I started betting. I really liked the instant 10% reload bonuses and the ability to deposit with e-checks. Their casino was just robbery though. One of the worst I've ever seen. I also hated that primetime games were often giving the hook that no one else was giving, and charging -120 on sides so often.

The betting options were so limited. Halftimes were only available on certain games, you couldn't do parlays or teasers on "circled" games, and their ML sides (tennis for example) were juiced heavily.

When I tried to quit gambling the first time, I asked them to never let me bet again. To my surprise they have kept their word, and have never allowed me to play on their site since that day. Not that I would want to. I've also heard that they've begun pegging some players, and giving different lines based on your tendencies.

I went to bookmaker for a bit and was impressed by their maximums for games. I was once able to get my account to 15k, and they let me put 11k on one game without an issue. Lost of course because of a fumble inside the 5 yard line .

I eventually moved on to 5 dimes, and don't understand why anyone would play with any other book. They don't offer reload bonuses, but will give you your choice of -107 odds or a rebate on losses at the end of the season.

They also offer the most betting options I've ever seen on a site. Every single game on the board has a game line and a halftime line. They also started accepting credit cards within the past few years. Other than crappy sportsbook.com, I hadn't had any luck depositing with credit cards for years. MoneyGram blacklisted me, and WU locations are drying up in my area.

Their maximums are not as high as bookmaker though.They put a cap of 250 on challenger tennis (which no one else offers), and $1000 cap on stuff like WNBA. I think max NFL is either 3 or 5k.

One time I was able to run my account from $300 to about 17k, and they started calling me a professional and limiting my amounts as well. I was able to bet 3k on an NFL game, but I had to call it in to one of the managers.

You should probably stick with bookmaker if you're betting heavy, as they probably won't give you trouble betting that hard. If you're looking for a place that accepts credit cards, I would head to 5 dimes so you can get your money and your action in quickly.

P.S. Their live blackjack will give you beginners luck. Just make sure you leave when you start running badly. A friend and I have turned 200 bucks into 2 grand pretty quickly before.

You can't play at Bovada. Great dog lines (the greatest actually) but they WILL limit with those kinds of amounts (win or lose! just get hot for a while!).

My bank screwed me over with 5Dimes and credit card deposits.  They restricted the purchases and 5Dimes became weary and blocked me, only allowing WU or MG deposits.  I am with a different bank that wouldn't do such a thing present day, but it has been years since the disconnect with 5Dimes.  I may try it.

I WILL SAY THIS:

After me calling and complaining this morning, I noticed just one hour prior to kickoff, the orange box was lifted and 2200 on Pitt was cleared.  THIS BEING SAID after the fact that the spread went from -3.5 to -6.

I appreciate the convenience offered by Bovada as they are the best to deposit/withdrawal from, but they are just outrageous with their restrictions on lines.

I'll always go down as saying despite the inconvenience as being stricken to MoneyGram only, Bookmaker has and always will be the best with lines, live play and 1H/halftimes.  Just wish WU never shunned me and this conversation wouldn't be happening

It's very simple.

1. Go to new bank.

2. Sit down with customer service rep. Ask them if their debit card is Visa based. Yes? Good.

3. Deposit $500 to $1,000 to get your feet wet.

4. Wait seven to 10 days for new visa debit card.

5. Deposit on 5Dimes in seconds.

It's really THAT easy.

I would NEVER deposit money WU or MoneyGram...That is a complete waste of time and you have to pay to do it, furthering the vig you have to overcome (already a hard thing to overcome).

I knew the end was near with Bovada when I wanted to bet a dog in an NFL game (I believe it was the Jets or Titans) and the line they had was +3 -145!

They wouldn't let me buy points or adjust the -145. I just had to lay that juice to get +3 or not play the game at all.

And they release some NBA lines as late as 5:30PM for a 7:30 start...always WELL after the betting markets have taken a big wet bite out of them.

Crazy.

Who wants to put up with that anymore? 

That reminds me of another thing I absolutely love about 5 dimes. They allow you to sell points.

Sometimes you feel so strongly about the game that you're pretty sure the team is going to win, but you don't have the guts to take the ML.

I've sold down from +7 to +4.5 and + 3.5 and gotten like +160 before doing that. If a team is going to cover 7 points, they are mostly likely not going to lose by 5 or 6 points. Typically when a team loses, but doesn't cover it's by a FG or 4 points (winning by 3, other team scores a late TD).

Sometimes it's not worth it though, when you are already getting -107 on the game line, it's not worth it to give up the hook on any number because it only goes down to -102 or even.

The thing I lovvvvve about 5 dimes also is they have a ML for every game. Most places won't offer one if it gets too high. Just another option for playing odds on a dog, or if you want to go heavy juice on a ML parlay, you can.

Their sweetheart teasers (13 pts football) are -120 and there are no circled games, and you can pick all over unders if you want to. Some places tax the hell out of the 13 pt teasers to -140, then only allow you to pick 2 over unders.

Not to mention they also have the best parlay odds of any site I've ever used. Way above industry standard.

Look at the Jones fight for tonight. This isn't a great example, because it's actually a closer fight but:

Bovada: Jones (-190), Cormier (+155)
5 Dimes: Jones (-189), Cormier (+169)

5 dimes is the type of book you can scalp off of compared to other books because they give you such fairer odds on things.

Money lines have saved me a lot of money on pickem games. In pro football especially, the likelihood of the line mattering with +2.5 or less is slim.

When you're getting +115 or +120 on a game like that there's a great deal of value.

When you're getting +150 ML on a +3 line, there's even more value. Sure the +3 has more of a chance of mattering in a game, but most of the time it's still worth it to take the ML. How often is a -3 game a push? Not very often.

Exactly. And that is EXACTLY what Bodog doesn't want to pay out..
