Roughriders 37, Argonauts 9: Running back Will Ford recorded 113 rushing yards and three touchdowns in his in his season debut as host Saskatchewan exacted a measure of revenge against Toronto.
Darian Durant was 9-for-17 passing for 155 yards and added a rushing touchdown of his own for the Roughriders (2-2), who lost 48-15 at Toronto in Week 2. Defensive end John Chick added two more sacks to his season total as Saskatchewan forced five Argonauts turnovers.
Ricky Ray completed 23-of-35 passes for 221 yards, but Toronto (1-4) could not convert on a pair of first-quarter red zone opportunities and fell behind quickly. Kicker Swayze Waters accounted for all of the Argonauts’ points, finishing 3-for-3 on field goal attempts.
Roughriders safety Tyron Brackenridge intercepted Ray on the second play from scrimmage and returned it 42 yards, setting up a 10-yard touchdown run by Durant to open the scoring. Ray was stripped of the ball by Tearrius George on Toronto’s next possession and Ford scored his first touchdown on a 20-yard run to give Saskatchewan a 14-0 lead 4:38 into the game.
Ford added two more touchdowns in the second quarter on short runs following big completions from Durant to Taj Smith and Dan DePalma. Roughriders kicker Chris Milo added field goals of 39, 38 and 43 yards in the second half to put the game away.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Saskatchewan added Ford to its roster at the beginning of the week after releasing RB Hugh Charles. … Chick has six sacks and is on pace to surpass his career-high of 11 set in 2009. … Argonauts WR Maurice Mann led all players with six receptions for 62 yards.
