One never needs to look very hard to find Unions muckin up the system.
How far does this strike reach?
Trucking industry, shipping industry, consumers, shop owners, etc...
The hourly wage of an experienced longshoreman under the most recent union contract, affecting U.S. East Coast ports, is $35 per hour; with wages for newcomers starting at $20. A longshoreman's total compensation, though, includes benefits that amount to 24 percent of the hourly wage and a bonus for each container of cargo they work with. The bonuses and benefits drive the potential hourly compensation up to $44.20 per hour, or $91,998 per year for a longshoreman who works 40 hours each week.
On the East Coast, wages for a longshoreman start at $20 per hour, or $41,600 per year, and rise over six years to $35 per hour, or $72,800. The base wages are similar on the West Coast of the U.S., but according to "The New York Times," quoting management, benefits and bonuses can be higher, with the benefits alone amounting to $42,000 per year. The paper reports that experienced union members can make from $100,000 to $120,000 a year in combined salary and benefits. The "Times" reports that increasing cargo traffic from Asia accounts for the slightly higher compensation on the West Coast.

The wages for these poor port working stevedore's can go as high as $50 an hour including all benefits and bonuses ..working late the late night shift ,the pay can increase 1.5 to 2 times the normal rate.
On the Waterfront : Father Barry: Isn't it simple as one, two, three? One: The working conditions are bad. Two: They're bad because the mob does the hiring. And three: The only way we can break the mob is to stop letting them get away with murder.

And ask Bowlofsoup what he is making..
Why is it that the some idiots in the middle class are jealous if a average worker makes 40 an hour ? Yet they have no problem with a CEO making 40 million a year !

Here's what the International Longshore and Warehouse Union is fighting for...The ILWU is demanding 3% annual raises over five years — which the shippers have agreed to — and some changes in the arbitration system.
Investor's Business Daily reports that according to the union's own material, the average dockworker makes $147,000 in annual salary and pulls in $35,000 a year in employer-paid health care benefits. Pensions pay $80,000 a year.
A total shutdown strike could cost the U.S. economy $2 billion a day, the National Retail Federation predicts.

That's the problem with the economy. They are making a third. How can they have a decent life ?
Obviously The middle class needs a raise. But some people in the middle class keep fighting against improving their quality of life and don't want them to have a raise. Yet they don't make a big stink about management salaries. I just don't get that.
I know as a soldier in a platoon, if someone was hampering the whole unit, they would get a blanket party.

Hey Slim,
If they handle that much of the US GDP.......then they should be getting a nice cut.
Take all the Dockworkers on strike, divide that by 3.5% of GDP, and I bet you will see they are asking for very little compared the amount of freight in dollars they are handling. Nothing wrong with the rich splitting it up a little.
These numbers are a little big for You to understand.
