If the league cut back down to 8 to 12 teams at most, then there would be a chance of survival. They're better off just dissolving the NHL and spread the little talent left to the overseas markets where they're wanted.
GOD DAMN AMERICA

It wasn't greed - it was this cancerous item called a union.
you needed to hear league veep and bettman musclehead bill daly on the radio today attempting to explain the nhl's bargaining rationale...
it was hilarious....i mean, i almost felt sorry for daly reasoning that the league needs a cap of 5 years on player contracts to save owners from themselves... like notorious tightwad jeremy jacobs in boston, a guy with a rep for tossing nickels around like manhole covers, bestowing a 6-year extension to tyler seguin...
then daly says, yes, since the last deal league revenues in fact grew a coupon of billion dollars despite a crippling global economic meltdown BUT consider how much the revenues could have grown if there'd been a better deal in place, meaning the contract actually cost the league money at the same time it was a cash cow...huh bill?...
and how's this for classic lunacy...phoenix remains bankrup, ownerless, and controlled by the league, which claims the players make too much dough and costs need to be reined in, so the nhl-run coyotes give shane doan, 36, a $21.2 million 4-year deal..
in a word: absurd...
i would have called the show to tell daly how stupid he sounded except i couldn't stop laughing

YOU need to watch the Canadian movie "Net Worth" about how players were consistantly FUCKED by owners like the Norris brothers and Conn Smythe.
anyone who blames unions for everything is a FOOL

Thats a shame because it is #1 by far in Canada and those are the teams that are making money...Buttman hates Canadians and is to stupid or pigheaded to realize this is where more teams need to be relocated...

Top five sports in USA .
# 1 NFL
#2 Baseball
#3 Basketball
#4 Nascar...... Not my number four but it is what it is
#5 NHL.......In my book NHL is # 3
See what the TV networks pay the most money for and you'll know why NHL is # 5......Nascar has the highest attendence per event. Also ask the Vegas books what sports have the highest handle.
