So I'm waiting for the MATH from Ed to prove his point, or admit he's just another loudmouth without numbers to back it up....
LOL. Just visit the websites that I've mentioned have already been written! They tell you how to compute the house edge, for straight bets, parlays, roulette, whatever you want!

While I agree that parlays are sucker bets my question for you is, what do you care what others do with their money? Are you just trying to raise self awareness or what cuz other than that this thread is pointless

You can't really calculate the house edge anyways because you're assuming each spread pick is a 50/50 proposition in doing that calculation but only God knows what the true percentage likelihoods are.
Darth, it sounds like you're trying to add capping into the equation and it doesn't work that way. Standard line is points -110 and whether a side is good or not doesn't affect house edge on either straight bets or parlays; its the same 10 cent juice you pay, and that's their edge.

I really find it fascinating how many of you clowns make these parlay bets. Do you have any idea what the house edge is on those bets? Any idea at all? Do you even know how to compute it? Do you even care?
If you stopped making parlay bets and just stuck to straight bets, your wallet will thank you for it very soon.
LOOKS LIKE U LOST ON RECENT PARLAY....U AZZZZ CLOWN...MIND YR OWN BUISNESS..I BET MY PICKS SMOKE YOURS WITH PARLAYS

I really don't care what others do with their money. They can blow it any way they want. (Too bad for me I'm not a bookie.)
I just find it absolutely fascinating the lack of math knowledge here on this site, and how many members here are clueless on some of the basics. They could increase their bankroll by learning a little bit about odds, probabilities, EV, expectation, house edge, etc. Ah, but I suppose that's too much work for them. We all have one goal... to win money... and yet so many here could make that goal more obtainable by not playing parlays! The house edge is much greater than that of straight bets! (And with that sentence we've come full circle.)

I would just be repeating what they said.
B*llshit, don't hide behind that if you can't do it. I looked at your sites, and nobody cares about roulette and other crap. You said clowns don't understand house edge on parlays being much worse than straight bets. I say you're wrong and can easily prove it. But since you're calling out others, let's see YOU prove it. Copy it from your sites if you have to. LET'S SEE THE MATH, OR YOU'RE THE CLOWN...

I just showed you some math above. Straight bet: House edge = .0455 1 - ( 21/22 ) Parlay bet that pays 6 to 1: House edge = .125 1 - ( 7/8 )
There are other ways to compute the same thing. (A nice thing about math.) From the above mentioned website:
The general formula for the house edge for a random picker is 1-(w+1)/2n,
where w is the winning odds on a "to one" basis, and n is the number of
teams. For example, if a 3-team parlay pays 6 to 1, then the house edge
is 1-(6+1)/23 = 1-(7/8) = 1/8 = 12.5%.

Actually - There was a uy complaining about a site down, not getting paid, etc.. can't really remember, but it was a couple years ago.
He had all types of Parlays that he said were mathmatically in his favor. He would play his predictions (which he was good) in many different forms. same 8 teams with one change, different 8 and change a different one, etc.
His figures worked out as if he Knew abcdeand f, but one could be off because of a bad game, etc. He would cover it 6 or 7 ways leaving out 1 bet. SO, in the end, as he said... there would have to be 6 upsets for him to lose them all. You could tell by the amounts of the bets he posted (copied and paste) that he knew what he was doing..
He bet 8k to make 1K and when you looked at the bets, you knew he was going to win. THat he was going to miss 7 of the 8, but one of them had to hit and a 1K profit was in hand...

Example - used 8teams in every combination but one. If any of the 8 hit, he wins. Only one combination can hit where he loses. At 500.00 per parlay, he would win 1K

possible combinations of parlay are calculated by "2 to the power of <number of teams in parlay>. so three teamer has 8 outcomes, four teamer has 16 outcomes, and so on. house is not stupid, they will never pay you the fair price, hence the lower payouts.

I don't touch them and while some may claim success with teasers and parlays, any bookie will tell you his best friends are those that play them. Like the guy that plays scratch-off lottery tickets every day and only talks of the ones that win.
Know a BIG book in Louisville that once preached to me that the only bettor that will consistently win exotic bets is the one that teases ONLY the 2 sides in the SAME game. Don't see many guys do that because they want action in multiple games. The more games involved, the better the book's edge. So ya, I agree with Ed and everyone can argue till blue in the face, imo long run gonna get ya. GL all

Your general formula doesn't look like its using -110 (standard moneyline), so I'll show how there's no house edge on parlays vs straight bets.
Using -110 to 100 moneyline on 3 games. I put 100 on a straight bet and I get back 90.91 in winnings (100 / 1.10). This is the equivalent of 1 straight bet. So now I have 190.91 (including my original 100) that I put on a 2nd play, and get back 173.55 in winnings (190.91 / 1.10). So now have 364.46 that I put on a 3rd play, and I win 331.33 (364.46 / 1.10) on that one. So now I just played 3 straight bets and have 695.79. Subtract my original 100 back out to get 595.79. If I'd just played a 3 team parlay I would've gotten back 600 (6-1) for my 100 instead of 596 on 3 straight bets.
So as long as you're getting good/correct odds, there is NO greater house edge on parlays vs straight bets. Right?
Easiest way to calculate a parlay: Bet amount x 1.9090, and keep multiplying 1.9090 for each game in the parlay, making sure to remove the original bet amount in the end.

Because I can. Once you hit a 7 teamer at 70 to 1 you will understand
Nice hit. The odds of hitting a 7-team parlay is 1 out of 128 or 127 to 1 against.
A 70 to 1 payout might have made you happy, but that's a pretty crappy payout at those odds. With no house edge, you would have had a payout of 127 to 1. At 70 to 1, you were bucking a 44.53% house edge! (1 - (71/128))
I'm curious how low of a payout you'd accept and still make that bet. 65 to 1? 60 to 1?

BTW, what I wrote is just mimicking a simple parlay calculator. You can find them anywhere. The real key is making sure your book is giving you good odds to eliminate any FURTHER house advantage from straight betting....

That we can agree on. Sometimes they screw you with lousy odds on those high-multiple parlays. You might as well just play the lottery....

Congratulations for discovering America to everyone here, Christopher Columbus. Math is fun, really..... i just fell asleep here.
Can you give us a formula for discipline and self control? Does MATH COMPUTE THAT?
how about 1 better.....
give us some winners, pal. Since we're the clowns and you're so good.

Baby_BA, you're correct. Naturally, it goes without saying that if the parlay is paying at true odds, then the house edge is the same either way. How could it not be? Unfortunately, when betting with a bookie or using those Vegas style parlay cards or with a site that doesn't use the true parlay odds, you're increasing the house edge, often substantially. And the math challenged players like ParlayLife and GeneCam and and DarhHambly and Greaseball are clueless when it comes to these things. They make it more difficult for themselves to come out ahead. They have no interest in the math behind it (like GeneCam who falls asleep) and they no idea how to properly compute the house edge or how knowing it can help them.

thanks for further re-iterating that you're jerkoff nerd. It's been months since some random holier than thou fecktard like yourself came in here telling everyone about "odds"..... dude honestly..... get a life.
