The only reason you don’t pooch/squib kick the ball in that situation is you’re afraid of them returning it for a TD. The alternative is giving Mahomes two plays to move them into FG range. With a squib he gets one play. Could he have done it with one play? It’s quite possible. But highly unlikely.
I cannot even fathom being a Bills fan, watching that unfold. But that decision will haunt McDermott the rest of his days. Poor Buffalo, you deserve better. Ain’t no one beating Mahomes now.

I haven’t checked what McDermott has said post game, but I’d imagine he feared a return. Honestly, i think these guys are so pumped with adrenaline they’re unable to think clearly. That’s why there’s only one Belichick and one Phil Jackson. They’re able to remain calm and clear in the most intense situations imaginable.

This thread is way overlooked. Too many disgruntled bettors not identifying the real issue which was the kick off to KC- that went out of the end zone saving all time remaining with Mahomes!
Also too many people offended by Dallas's last play. They got their ass kicked- game was over.... ridiculous discussion on last seconds.
And if you think it's rigged; bet on the right side or get lost and find another hobby!

The only defense I can give for it is like you said, not wanting to give then chance at td--which would have been a small chance...BUT how many people would have thought 13 seconds was enough time to set up for a FG? It was so improbable that we can only blame that decision, in hindsight.

Apparently people think people only say the game is rigged when they lost, hahaha i am up on money and i just started betting a few weeks ago so yes i can say it is rigged, even when i win, i still say it is rigged... I am not a blind sheep that is programmed to believe everything they see on Tell Lie Vision to be real... Real Eyes See Lies... No matter what Buffalo did, KC was getting a game tying FG and winning in OT... The refs would have just thrown a flag if KC struggled on either play to move the ball... But a squib kick would have done nothing, KC would have just caught it and taken a knee and 0 seconds would have come off the clock...

I've actually looked at a couple of Bills message boards and they are all bitching that he didn't squib or at lease kick a high kick that came down at around the 5 yard line.

I hear you but Romo said it on the broadcast. He was pretty shocked they were kicking it into the end zone. He very clearly stated, I would not let Mahomes set up camp with all 13 seconds here. So yea, in hindsight it was very clearly the wrong call. But also in foresight. Personally, I couldn’t believe it when they didn’t squib it. I texted my friend, “this is going to OT.” Not sure how any of those buffalo players or coaches will sleep for the next few weeks.

One belicheck and one Jackson..lmfaoooo....I was sitting with 12 hammered assholess.. who literally all understood that the squib kick was the ONLY play there...it.was completely asinine to kick deep there...only way they could lose

Totally agree. My point is that McDermott lost clarity. And coaches like Belichick and Phil Jackson seem to always make the right call in those situations. How many playoff games has Belichick coached in and how many colossal season ending mistakes do you remember him making? I hate Belichick but he 1000% would’ve known there was no other choice but to squib.

First pass to Hill single coverage second pass to Kelce single coverage then tying FG...uh why didn't the Bills double cover the main threats? How can you let those guys beat you?

Would love to see Matty Staffs win a super bowl after all those dreadful years in Detroit, but I just don’t see anyone beating KC. Mahomes looked possessed out there. Dude has the eye of the tiger. Rams and Niners are both more physical and can get to the QB, but Mahomes is on a whole other level than everyone other than Allen. I see it as a Michael Jordan situation. Best player on the floor is gonna win the tournament.

I know a lot of people wanna blame this on the kickoff... but let's be honest the reason the Bills lost was their defense. 13 seconds left from the 25 and you still allow KC to easily get in FG range? I'm sorry that should not happen. Pathetic performance by Buffalo's defense.
McDermott won't ever be the same after this game. Not sure how he comes back from this. Even with the kicking into the end zone blunder - you have to be able to hold them down with 13 seconds left. Hell, just commit 5 yard defensive holding penalty's over and over and over again until time expires.

With timeouts it seemed to be plenty of time. They should of let Kelce run a little futher or go down and not touch him right away. But that takes fast thinking on the move.
