Mark Sanchez. A facilitator behind center. Not one but TWO Afc championships, in years where the win total for the first year was over under SEVEN WINS (I remember distinctly because Bill Simmons tweeted out his under ticket with the words "easy money").
Granted we all know there were injuries on the other side of the ball in certain games and the Jets were allowed to back in the playoffs the first year with the Colts laying down, but my god, to not have even made the playoffs since..
Even more bizarre, some of our other best years were under Herman "Play to win the game" Edwards and Chad Pennington who had NO deep ball. NONE. I mean, think about all the extra sideline pressure all those years and Chad consistently completed those passes.
Anyhow, this is the Browns in a nutshell. Jets look awful but the Browns with two turnovers inside their own 5. This is what the Browns do!
The Browns have not had a lead all year and still haven't.
Scal,
Those Herm/Chad years were my favorite years ever. Has Chad been able to stay healthy, he would have been that franchise quarterback we longed for for so many years. Unfortunately, he got hit by the injury bug and it ended his career early. No he didn’t have a great arm, but if you actually look at the numbers, he had one of the highest completion percentages of balls thrown over 20 yards downfield. He did it rarely, but when he did it, they were completed. He was such a smart qb who rarely turned the ball over and was so accurate...man I wish we got to see him play longer. That Herman Edwards qb kneel call to center the ball, but move it backwards in Pittsburgh in the playoffs still haunts me. Doug Brien followed that call by coming up short. Ugh.
Anyway, the Browns should have been up 20-0 today in the first half. Two turnovers and two missed field goals in the red zone resulted in a 3-0 Jets lead at halftime that they capitalized by putting it away in the second half. It wasn’t pretty, but a win is a win, and any win on the road on this league is a good one. 3-2 and the Patriots and Brady coming to town. If you told me I was dreaming, I would believe you. We always play the Pats tough at home. Definitely a winnable game. Let’s go!!
