Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa passed for 227 yards and three touchdowns in a little more than two quarters as No. 2 Alabama raced to a 62-10 victory over visiting New Mexico State on a hot, humid Saturday afternoon in Tuscaloosa.

The Crimson Tide (2-0) scored a pair of long plays -- a 75-yard run by wide receiver Henry Ruggs III on their first play from scrimmage and freshman running back Keilan Robinson's 74-yard dash in the third quarter.

Tagovailoa was 16-of-27 passing and also scored on a 25-yard scramble before leaving the game after directing a touchdown drive in the third quarter. It marked the 11th time that he has sat out the fourth quarter in his 16 starts.

Sophomore Mac Jones took over and was 5-of-9 passing for 58 yards and a touchdown the rest of the way on a day in which the temperature was 93 degrees with 90 percent humidity.

Wide receiver Jerry Jeudy had three touchdown catches, moving him to the No. 2 spot in the Alabama record book with 20 career touchdown receptions. He finished with eight receptions for 103 yards.

Robinson ended up with a team-high 80 rushing yards on five carries. Najee Harris carried 12 times for 68 yards.

The visiting Aggies (0-2) scored in the third quarter on wide receiver Jason Huntley's 4-yard reception that was set up by receiver Tony Nicholson's 44-yard catch-and-run to Alabama's 5-yard line. They were denied twice at the Tide's 2-yard line as time ran out in the game.

The Aggies also got a 43-yard field goal from kicker Dylan Brown in the fourth quarter. Kicker Will Reichard had field goals of 48 and 49 yards for the Tide.

After failing to score in the first quarter in the opening 42-3 win over Duke, Alabama was up 21-0 at the end of the first quarter in this one and 38-0 at the half.
