I think Kelly is an excellent coach. His problem is he just doesn't have the horses to match-up with Alabama anywhere on the field, especially depth. Alabama is way too deep for Notre Dame and will ultimately impose their will.
Quite easy to conclude that. I refuse to take a different stance. I totally believe that with proper coaching (preparation and mindset) there are ten-20 equal teams, and anyone is beatable on a given day, even if both teams play their gameplans. Parity is there, but saying it to those induced by the smog of ESPN pundits and their ilk, well, it's like telling a fish that water exists, but they don't believe it because it's all around them.
Bama might win by one score, and everyone will conclude that "Bama played a bad game, and ND played a great game." They will say the same thing if ND wins by a score. It's what they said when Utah beat Saban's Alabama team in 2009. It's annoying and worst, and mildly amusing at the stupidity of the minnion who align their low self-esteem into a team or the SEC for validation. Kind of pathetic really. I wish they would enjoy playing teams west of the Miss and north of the Mason-Dixon and believe in athletic competion, not try to dominate, either with inlfuence, politics...or money (head coaches and paying off players).

@BigDog: Do you know what is at the apex of the "Pyramid of Success" (John Wooden)?
Please tell me if you know...
Too slow, dawg.
"Real love of a hard battle."
If the SEC is at the top of the pyramid, food chain, if they are the Alpha Male that ESPN claims they are, then WHY do they schedule 3-4 cupcakes to pad their BCS points within the south region, instead of playing beyond the Miss River and North of the Mason Dixon? It's just a 3 hour flight to anywhere. What's the deal? Why are they AFRAID of a hard battle? In other words, they have achieved strength. They havthe personnel. They have paid for the coaches and the weight rooms. They have the political people at the BCS, the spokespersons at ESPN. Now, just schedule games outside of the South and live up to it--win or lose.

Why would you want Florida to make Oregon look like poop and score 10 points? They couldn't score on Stanford... you think they stood a change against the Gator D? Ha!
Kansas St. would get beaten by any of the top 10 SEC teams very badly. They put up 24 on the worst defense in the NCAA (literally) and squeaked by at Oklahoma and Iowa St. who defensively aren't on the same planet as the aforementioned teams.
Stanford would be the only decent match, as they have the only decent defense from those teams.
Your respons is shoddy logic but with a lining of truth. This game (and any game with Bama) will be an NFL type showdown, that is, very hard earned points with few freebies, no relaxing, no leaving the game to the QB and WRs. Probably low scoring, somewhere in the 30s at best. Total should be 36, and would stay even below that.

I dont know how they do these games but once I saw ksu was facing oregon I knew this was never gonna work out.
Clemson, louisville, michigan? What will these games prove?
They are just partof the stage for the SEC to romp over teams with glaring weaknesses. Neither of these three you mention played defense in 2012.
They are trying to fool y'all into believing the SEC is so dominant, and they need to win their bowl games to start 2013 with half their teams in the top ten. YOU CANNOT MAKE THE NC GAME IF YOU'RE NOT IN THE TOP 15 NATIONALLY. NAME A YR THAT HAS HAPPENED......

I agree with your general points but ND was not preseason top 15 this year

I don't even know what to do with this game. I go back and forth really. I'veonly seen snippets of ND football. They surprised everyone beating Oklahoma in Norman handily, and safe to say that is remarkable, and pre-season, it looked on paper they'd be 9-3 tops. So just to be here is over the top. So if they overacheived and they get exposed, so be it. I can only see a low scoring game where the clock just ticks away. This highly anticipated matchup will be gone before the second beer can. Alabama breathes air in the troposphere like everyone else, and they make mistakeson offense (more than on defense). If ND wins,it will surprise me--thats a fact.

ND would be the first in awhile. My statistician went out to lunch. My guess is the NC has always been pre-season ranked. I think that was Auburn's"problem" when they went undefeated in 04, and USC claimed the NC by the polls.
