Personally wish Disco Dan well and hope they figure something out but as a "Pens fan" only had wished he were replaced after the Tampa series but figured he deserved a chance to redeem himself and after the Flyers debacle he should have been replaced.
Way too many questionable bad coaching moves when it comes to playoff hockey. If were feasible he should have been fired during the Islander series.

Always pickin' on the coach when a team loses or gets royally smoked as is the case with Pissburgh in this series. Why should he get canned when they are sent packing? Why not trade a couple of the players who haven't produced or pulled their weight instead? Afterall that would be the logical choice but then that's true, it is too darn logical.

I mean other than inheriting a team that just went to the Cup Finals a season earlier (if I recall correctly)
actually DB replaced Michel Therrien in mid febuary 2009 because the Penguins were in danger of missing the playoffs after going to finals in 2008. they then went 18-3 to finish the regular season. in that years playoffs they beat the Flyers 4-2 games, Capitals 4-3 games and Hurricans 4-0 games before WINNING the Stanley Cup against Detroit 4 games to 3. the only real criticism I DO have is that the Penguins seem guilty of "overpassing" almost every game. trying the make "fancy Russian passing plays" (esp Malkin) instead of shooting and looking for rebounds
I will agree with PBW. it's BOGUS to always blame the coach for a team underachieving. look at the Lightning. they replace Guy Boucher late March of this year BUT the team STILL continued to loaf and missed the playoffs. will agree it's a pretty horrible performance, esp with NO scoring, vs the Bruins BUT, in my view, they just ran into a "destiny team" with a hot goalie. they ARE getting scoring chances, just NOT getting it past Rask.
I would dump Fleury for starters and "the great Iggy experiment" has obviously NOT worked. one thing my Penguins DO need, as I have stated numerous times, is SIZE and GRIT up front. need that Tomas Holmstrom style "cause problems for the goalie" forward esp on the power play and a Clark Gillies to protect Sidney Crosby and bang in rebounds

I'll chime in. I do like him, actually really like him. The only series that I have really been pissed off about was the Flyer series, as I thought he completely lost control of his team. Tampa we did well to compete with who we had and probably didn't deserve to be up 3-1, Montreal series Halak was sensational, the Philly series last year that was a debacle.
I think he has done well this year, especially with the injuries during the regular season. The whole sticking with Fleury thing, well perhaps I am a sucker as I too thought he would regain some of his magic from our Cup runs, but I think he has lost all confidence and a fresh start might be what the doctor ordered.
I was one that was excited about the deadline moves and as I spoke to many co-workers, to me getting Iginla was not so much about the Pens getting him, as the Bruins not getting him. Murray has been okay at best and Morrow has done nothing in the playoffs. I wonder in hindsight, if Ray should have not tinkered with this squad the way he did. Easy to say when times are tough.
Is part of this thread though, maybe not that the Penguins are that bad, but not giving enough respect to the Bruins. Granted their finish to the season, was nothing to write home about but boy they have looked very solid since squeaking by the Leafs. Rask no more needs to be said there, but their D, has been tremendous in the series against the Penguins.
Make no bones about it, the Bruins are well deserved to be leading this series, but people harping on the Pens being terrible, I do not get it. Their Game 2 was a debacle, but they were just fine for two periods in game one and I thought they played very well last night. I thought their D, was great last night and I am not sure I have ever seen Engelland play a better game. There was no shortage of posts last night hit by the Pens and that is just the way the puck bounces sometimes.
In conclusion, I would keep him for one more run PB, but keep in mind I am not some hockey aficionado. I do think that Shero, is equally as guilty in not living up to expectations.
Lastly, for the fanatics coming here piping about the Bruins being the best ever, I hope you backed it up with your wallet, before these playoffs started, as then your credibility will be rewarded in your wallet, instead of your ego.

I
all true statements, Flutiemaniac. I remember the Bruins fans whining and crying during the Maple Leafs comeback from down 1-3 right up until the Bruins did the "Lazarus" with 1:22 to go in Game 7. BUT they have been a "destiny team" ever since.
what's going to be embarrassing for my Penguins and their fans is IF they can't get at least ONE win this series like the freeking Rangers did.
