In 2005, the Steelers had less wins than the Seahawks.
The Steelers were the #6 seed while the Seahawks were #1 seed
Steelers were -4.5 & they covered
It seems people are over analyzing this game & its not that difficult.
The oddsmakers arent stupid & they know why they made the Packers the favorite.

More false garbage...Pitt had the mostg sacks in the league, GB did not lead the league in any defensive category.. PITT also has the best stat 14.5ppg they average in giving up.
Like SteelCash says, the public is enamored with Rogers and passing the football for a bunch of yards..The media has a big play in this as well...Everyone knows Defense wins championships and the best won will win come Super Sunday... I'll back the better D in Pitt

So.....would it be respectful if Pittsburgh was laying points?!?! The spread has absolutely nothing to do with respect - it's a price tag.

I'm not sure that game is a good example PT.
Seattle pretty much out-played Pitt and should of won the game, had not the refs, who already came out and said they made many bad calls that cost Seattle the game.
It was the SB with the largest difference in penalty's of any SB.
Seattle became the only team in SB history to win the total yds battle, time of possesion battle and TO battle and lose the game, basically because of all the bad calls.
Big Ben produced by far the worst QB Passer Rating of any SB winner in history and one of the worst amoung all SB losers.
Yea Pitt won and covered but it wasn't because they out-played Seattle.

The Steelers have a great franchise with multiple superbowl wins and a storied history. They've always been a tough and gritty team - all very good things.
But let's fast forward to 2011 and get with current times. What does the ''75, ''76, ''79, or '80 appearances in the SB have anything to do with today's team?
Nothing.
What about the '06 or '09 teams?
A little bit, I'm sure we could all make a case for that.
How do those appearances help me cap this years team?
They don't.
Did the books/oddsmakers look back 25 years and determine what this year's spread should be based on Pittsburgh's SB history?
No.
Sportsbooks are not concerned with a Steelers fan feeling disrespected or a Green Bay fan feeling disrespected (if GB was the dog). They are concerned with profit and only profit. It is simply a business.
If a spread or line is put out on a game and you think the opposite side should be favored, take the dog - don't take it as a sign of disrespect - take it as a present.
