The guy has one great season and because he has a few ESPN commercials about his disgusting beard suddenly he is Mariano Rivera. There are at least half a dozen different closers having better seasons than Wilson, but you wouldn’t think that watching ESPN.
Who is your pick for the most overrated player so far this season?

Jeter? I think we saw how valuable he is since 12 errors at short since hes been out and its just been not noticeable since they have been winning scoring a ton of runs. But yesterday it cost them the game

Jeter has been the most overrated player for close to a decade. Abysmal defense but good offense. His larger than life persona and the way Yankee fans and the media talk about him make it seem as if he deserves to be in the conversation with players like Babe Ruth, Mantle, Dimaggio, Mays, Aaron, Teddy Baseball, etc....
He deserves to be nowhere in the same conversation as those players. He is a terrific player and 1st ballot HOFer but he is not a top 50 player of All time.... Might not even be a top 100 player.

I believe he's up and down. Over-rated might be a bit harsch but intimidating at times and hittable at times. I would say the most over-rated player would be if we had to pick the same team would be maybe Tim Lincecum. He gets the respect of course but he can be very hittable at least for now.

Everyone who mentioned a player on this list has no clue what your talking about... look at what responses you guys came up with for most overrated Jeter Agrubley one of th greatest SS to play the game. His stats tell everything, do not judge by his last few years, how many SS do you see at his age putting up numbers like he has. The only other player i can think of is the great Cal Utley arguably one of the greatest offensive 2nd basemen to play the game. If you disagree you haven't seen this guy swing the bat. Cano is one of the other hard hitting 2nd basemen in the game today. Lincecum How many Cy Youngs and World Series MVPs does the guy have? Probably the worst comments to this thread Ortiz did you not watch the series between the Sox and the Yankees? This guy brought back the Sox with HR after HR. He deserves every dollar he gets after that series. Wilson Intimidation, check. World Series, check. Look what hes done for the game.

Is Wilson the best closer in the game right now? Because that’s what the talking heads at ESPN are acting like.

Have you not watched the mans last 2 games? He doesn't like pitching in the day, and hes still going to shut down the Pads today. Hes rollinggggg

Every one of your responses except one was about a player’s career and what they have done in years past. This is about their performance THIS season.
Again: do you think Wilson is the best closer in baseball right now? Because that’s ESPN is acting like.

As previously stated: there are at least half a dozen closers having better seasons than Wilson yet ESPN is acting like he is Mariano Rivera.
Didn't see your post about this season only.
6 huh name them
From what I see Wilson is tied with the most saves, leading in Ws Ortiz is having an above career season Jeter has been injured ( possibly) Utley has been injured Lincecum- come on, really. You should be ashamed to add his name to this list. Apart from the losses how is he having a bad season? The guy is coming off a World Series run, pretty sure EVERY pitcher in the league got more rest then this guy during the off season.

But as for Brian Wilson...I couldn't agree more. I said that in the "All-Star Snubs" thread I made yesterday and I've been arguing with this friend of mine whose a Giants fan.
He's a closer with a 1.42 WHIP. He's averaging 5.1 walks per 9 innings. That's a joke. The only reason he's on the All-Star team is because of Bochy.
He was an All-Star last season...and rightfully so as he had an ERA in the 1's and a WHIP that is pretty respectable. However...he walks the world and that doesn't make you a lockdown closer.
Did anyone see his performance in Detroit the other night? Blows the save. Gets a 3 runs lead. Comes back out. Gives up another run. And leaves with 2 runners on for Affeldt to save the day.

And as for Jeter. Everyone in the world can say he's overrated. Hell...he's a first ballot Hall of Famer and people are saying he's been overrated for his entire career. But that's 2 things that will never change. He's still going to be a first ballot Hall of Famer. And everyone will always look back and, somehow, say he was always overrated.
Lets not forget who rates these guys in the first place.......The Media.
