BTW just got this today December 18th from Rogers, and Rogers got it on December 1 as you can see, so don't think it is a priority to them. They probably got another e-mail from MediaSentry saying why did you not reply to us

Shit, I did not know these notices were being sent to Canadian customers. Scary stuff. I'd be more interested in finding out how showtime got access to your IP adress. Did you use a popular P2P website when you downloaded the Dexter episode?

Yeah was using either Torrentz or extratorrent. Been searching a bit since I posted this and from what I read it is not illegal to download music in Canada just to upload. Not sure about movies or TV Shows though.

I have talked to a couple of other people that have got almost the exact same e-mail word for word from different IP providers. I think I will forgo downloading for a bit but I don't think I have to call my lawyer or anything.

wow. I had no idea they were doing this. I have yet to receive anything from my ISP (Cogeco Cable). I don't think you should go as far as calling a lawyer, but I would be careful, or start downloading from a different site.

I did hear that some companies are probably uploading their own copyrighted files to P2P sites on the sly, in an effort to try and track down IP's of downloaders.
Could just be the usual conspiracy theory crap you get and to be honest I cant even remember where I heard it from or who told me this, but I can sorta see it happening.
As for the letter, a couple of my friends here in the UK have had similar letters from their ISP telling them to stop downloading restricted content but nothing else ever came of it - by the sounds of things it was more of a warning than an actual threat...
