The Mid-American Conference has three regular bowl tie-ins, with a contingency to fill a spot in a fourth game. The champions of the two MAC divisions are guaranteed to go to one of the three bowl games.[9]
#1 The Little Caesars Pizza Bowl receives the first choice of MAC teams, though it is not required to take the MAC champion.
#2 The GoDaddy.com Bowl receives the second choice of MAC teams.

What worries me is... I don't know if Miami Ohio can score.... could be a 42-7 game... Northern Illinois will be really, really fast on artificial turf........ Sharp

If you look at the past few opponents that n ill has played they have been subpar at best. They are more competitive with decent opponents and right now mia(oh) is playing well. Too many pts. Mia for the small.

This N. Illinois team is a real team. I have missed the boat on most of their games this year. I faded them a few times thinking they were due for a bad game. Last week, I thought they wouldn't play with passion because it was a forgone conclusion that they would win. Yah, win they did......putting up 71!! I'll lay the points here going against a team that can only run, and the Husky's D against the run is no slouch!!! Northern will just pound on Miami in this one. This isn't BG or Temple coming to town.

Wait a minute. No Ill is 9-0-1 ATS last 10 games, and they're 2-8 ATS vs. a team w/ a winning record. Redhawks are 8-4, public is ALL over No. Ill, the "covers experts are picking No. ILL at a 10-1 clip..........no more calls sports fans. For those of us keepin track, we'll take a helping of the Redhawks. GL

Northern Illinois has won me alot of cash this year......it won't stop this week either. Indoors, on turf, they may put up 50+. Their running game is incredible and they have a really good Defense as well. Way too much for Miami Ohio to handle.

The old days when teams stopped running up the score are over. NIU wants to be the next TCU or Boise St. and the only way to get there in a mediocre conference is to mash all your conference rivals. Last week they put in their third string and they still ran untouched for TD's against Eastern Michigan in the second half, worst total beating I've ever seen. Is Miami good? No, they were crushed by Missourri and Cincinatt. Indoors NIU will put up 50. Miami will not be shut out. I like the over more than NIU +17, I just don't like giving that many points.

Northern Illinois throttled Eastern Michigan 71-3 to capture the MAC West title and move them to the conference championship. The Huskies offense has been unstoppable in league match ups and torched EMU with 646 yards and big plays. Chandler Harnish completed 8 of 13 attempts for 101 yards and a pair of touchdowns, but passing is something they do well enough to compliment an outstanding rushing attack rolled to an eye popping 544 yards versus an overmatched Eagles defense. Jordan Lynch gained 142 yards on only two carries with both ending up in the end zone, while Jasmin Hopkins carried the ball four times for another 104 yards and a score. Altogether, eight players ran the ball with five jaunts of at least 60 yards.
As dominating as the NIU offense was, their defense was every bit as good as their counterparts. They gave up just 160 yards and 2 of 15 on third down. Eastern Michigan ran the ball 55 times for just 149 yards as they tried to keep the ball away from the Huskies while putting points on the board. EMU could not string anything of consequence together even though they held the ball for nearly 39 minutes.
Miami (OH) punched their ticket to the MAC title game when they defeated Temple 23-3. The Redhawks preferred method of attack is through the air with their #40 passing game. However, it was an eye opener when they ran the ball rather easily against a respected Temple defense. Austin Boucher went 15 of 29 for 155 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Scoring tosses of 34 and 8 yards helped build a 16-3 lead and a 96 yard Thomas Merriweather touchdown run in the fourth quarter ended it. Merriweather’s 22 carry, 182 yard night led Miami (OH) to 253 rushing yards which is outstanding production for a team that doesn’t break the 100 yard barrier all that often.
The Redhawks are not a high scoring team and fortunately they have one of the better defenses in the MAC that has kept them competitive throughout the season. They held the Owls to just 215 yards and their trademark ground attack to 70 yards. When Mike Gerardi (11-27 108) tried to move the chains through the air, he ended up having his poorest outing of the season. Temple was 2 of 13 on third down and were shorthanded with Bernard Pierce out with a bad hamstring but it’s debatable if that would have mattered.
Northern Illinois have been the 900 pound gorilla in the conference with great balance between their offense and defense as they can light up the scoreboard and keep opponents in check. Miami (OH) can throw the ball but they don’t put up a lot of points which puts a bit of a strain on one of the better defenses in the league. If both teams play as capable, I can see NIU winning big here…
