Q&A with Jason
What sport do you have the most success betting on?
While I handicap just about every sport under the sun, I have my highest ROI on UFC, college basketball and CFL betting. Getting ahead of line movement is key in those sports and doing your homework on obscure fighters in MMA, smaller schools in the NCAA, and roster turnover in the CFL can be very profitable.
What’s the best time for betting: Super Bowl or March Madness?
The Big Game is great, but nothing beats the first two days of the NCAA Tournament, especially now that college hoops odds have expanded into player props over the past seven years.
Who has been your biggest mentors during your career at Covers?
Just like betting, you need to get info from multiple sources. I would say the late, great handicapper David Malinsky, legendary bookmaker Johnny Avello, and even my colleagues - like Jon Metler and Josh Inglis - have helped make me a smarter bettor over the past 20 years.
What’s your best advice for new sports bettors?
Handicapping isn't a one size fits all process. The impact and importance of information varies from bet to bet. Treat each wager different than the last.
I don’t bet a lot of baseball, but Covers has some extremely valuable sources of info. Weather/wind direction as well as umpire stats are very much underrated in terms of capping MLB totals.

Jason's memories
🚀 Big wins
Justin Timberlake covering Prince’s “I Would Die For You” during the Super Bowl LII halftime show, cashing in at +140. I’m a huge Prince fan and it was one of the rare Super Bowl bets I won that day.
😭 Bad beat
Game 5 of Pacers-Nets in the 2002 NBA Playoffs. I needed Pacers +5 to close out a big parlay, but Reggie Miller kept forcing overtimes – buzzer-beating 3-pointer that shouldn’t have counted and a damn dunk – and Indiana ended up losing by 11 points in double OT anyways.

Senior Betting Analyst
When his dreams of becoming the next Steve Nash died, all Andrew "Taco" Caley wanted to do was write about sports, something he's been doing at Covers for more than a decade. A Journalism School grad from Holland College in Charlottetown, PEI, Andrew previously worked at The Chronicle Herald and Star Metro, but knew in his heart that his future lay in sports. He began at Covers as a news editor and has now done everything under the sun when it comes to content. His work has been seen on TSN, Sportsnet, VSiN, and CBS.These days Andrew's betting expertise is focused on his favorite teams; the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Raptors. He's also an avid college football fan and bettor. He can't be friends with you if you don't appreciate a Service Academy Under. You can also call him Covers Sixth Man, as he regularly steps up to guest host Before You Bet and our MLB and NCAAF release shows. The sportsbook where he does the bulk of his betting is bet365 thanks to its numerous prop betting options and competitive odds. His best advice? Find the balance between the numbers and what you see on the playing field. Then find the best price using multiple books. And dont ask him where the nickname Taco comes from. It's not an interesting story. Seriously.<

Betting Analyst
Neil Parker is, first and foremost, a sports fan. A huge supporter of the Cowboys, Cubs, and Maple Leafs, he has managed to parlay his passion into writing gigs at some of the top websites in the industry. Neil takes a numbers-based approach to his handicapping and complements his in-depth statistical analysis with a keen eye on the markets to provide the best available odds. He loves to lean on his rolodex of idioms to offset his inner nerd. When it comes to wagering, he throws down on anything that catches his eye at bet365, Betway and BetVictor. He also keeps a close eye on CoolBet because the polar bear brand often has outlier NHL and NFL moneyline prices. Neil graduated with honors from St. Thomas University in 2007 before completing his BEd at Acadia University in 2010. After teaching a myriad of courses and subjects, he found a groove delivering fun lessons to exceptional learners in non-traditional classroom environments. If his decade-plus teaching run taught him anything about sports betting, its to stay the course and use the summer or offseason to refresh and prepare to be better in the year to come.
