The Atlanta Dream will play their home opener Tuesday night, hosting the Dallas Wings, who will be on the road for the first time this season.

Both teams are 1-1 to start the season, and both are tied for third in their respective conferences. Atlanta has been picked as a 5-point favorite in the WNBA odds.

Who takes the first of three meetings between these teams? Read below for my Dream vs. Wings predictions and WNBA picks below.

Dream vs Wings predictions

My best bet
Wings +5 (-105 at DraftKings)

My analysis
The Dallas Wings started the year by splitting a two-game set with the Sky. After opening with an 87-79 win, the Wings were clipped in the rematch three days later, 83-74.

The Wings are just one of five teams to allow 81 points or fewer on the season, albeit in a small sample size, and against just one team. Dallas limited the Sky to 39.6% shooting from the field over the two games, as well as a lowly 23.5% mark from 3-point range.

Offensively, they’re led by guard Arike Ogunbowale, who went for 35 points, five rebounds, and three assists in the loss to Chicago. She's led the team in scoring in both games, dropping 25 points and seven dimes in the season opener.

The Atlanta Dream opened their campaign with a pair of high-scoring affairs. The Dream dumped the Sparks 92-81 in their opener but got stopped 88-85 in Phoenix.

Their scoring is a little more evenly distributed than Dallas. Rhyne Howard leads the team in scoring at 23 points per game, with three others averaging at least 13.5 points per contest.

While the Dream rank third in scoring offense at 88.5 points per game, the Dream are also fourth last in points allowed at 84.5.

The Wings are also riding a six-game losing skid against Atlanta. They lost all five meetings against them last season, including two in the first round of the playoffs. The closest margin of defeat in those losses was seven points, with three coming by double-digits.

Dallas should be able to keep it closer this time, as it's stingier inside: the Wings are second in the W in opponent points in the paint and fourth in the league in paint points at 40 per game.

The Wings are second in paint scoring at 42 points per contest, they're last in paint points allowed, partly because they’re tied for the second-most fast-break points allowed.

Atlanta should be fired up in front of the home fans, but the Wings should be able to keep this close.

Dream vs Wings same-game parlay (SGP)

Wings +5.5

Arike Ogunbowale Over 23.5 points

Rhyne Howard Over 2.5 threes

Ogunbowale is off to a nice start and has topped this 24.5-point total in both games this season. She also hit the Dream up for big games last season, averaging 26.7 points against them in the regular season, topping the 25-point plateau twice.

Similarly, the books are setting a total of 3-point makes for Rhyne Howard (2.5) that she’s already crossed in both games this season. Howard went 5-for-9 from distance last time out after a 3-for-7 night from beyond the arc against the Sparks.

Last season, Howard drilled at least three triples in four of five games against the Wings. Expect more splashing from the Dream’s leading scorer.
