Dan Ige vs. Nate Landwehr is on the main card for UFC 289 betting tonight from Rogers Arena in Vancouver, BC.

This should be an entertaining tilt between a pair of exciting fighters in a deep featherweight division. Ige is the No. 13-ranked featherweight contender, and his spot in the Top 15 is on the line against the surging Landwehr, who is looking to crack the rankings. UFC betting lines opened with Ige as a -260 favorite and Landwehr the underdog at +220.

Dan Ige vs Nate Landwehr betting preview

Dan "50K" Ige is coming off a second-round knockout win against Damon Jackson in January which earned him Performance of the Night honors. Ige climbed the UFC rankings by reeling off six wins in a row between 2018 and 2020. However, he came crashing back to Earth by losing four of his next five fights before starching Jackson earlier this year.

The 31-year-old is a talented boxer with heavy hands and solid wrestling. He is just as capable of striking on the outside as he is at throwing power shots on the inside.

Nate "The Train" Landwehr is on a three-fight winning streak where he claimed two Performance of the Night and one Fight of the Night bonus. The former M-1 Global Featherweight champ was knocked out in two of his first three fights in the UFC before going on his current win streak.

Landwehr is a pressure fighter who loves to push the pace and has good boxing ability. Although he isn't known for his grappling, two of his last three victories came by way of submission. In the other victory against David Onama last August, he had three takedowns and a pair of submission attempts.

Dan Ige vs Nate Landwehr UFC prediction and best bet

That said, while Ige is well-rounded, he has struggled against the top fighters in the division. He looked out of his depth against elite strikers like Josh Emmett and Calvin Kattar while getting mauled by high-end grapplers like Mosvar Evloev and Chang Sung Jung (yes, the Korean Zombie isn't just a durable brawler). Fortunately for Ige, Landwehr is a cut below the elite level.

Landwehr is all action all the time, which is extremely exciting for fight fans, but it also makes him vulnerable in exchanges. He can be a bit wild and reckless with his striking, and that aggressiveness has gotten him in trouble in the past against fighters who aren't as dangerous as Ige.

That's bad news against the more patient Ige, who is a sharp counter-striker and works the head and body from a variety of ranges. If Landwehr displays his better fight IQ, uses his offensive grappling, and is more measured in striking exchanges, he could pull off the upset. But at this stage in his career, I don't see the 35-year-old changing up his style.

Prediction: Ige ML (-250 at bet365)

Landwehr's aggressive approach also makes him very hittable, and he absorbs 5.51 significant strikes per minute.

We saw him get caught in his two earlier defeats in the octagon when he was knocked out by Julian Erosa and Herbert Burns in the opening round. He was also knocked down and almost finished in the first round by Onama before rallying to get the victory.

Ige has a compact build and incredible power in his hands, especially in close where he can land devastating hooks without loading up. That power was on full display in his last two victories when he scored highlight-reel knockouts against Jackson and Gavin Tucker.

If Landwehr exposes his chin in this one, he's going to sleep.

Pick: Ige by KO/TKO (+180 at FanDuel)
