How to fill out our World Cup bracket

You can fill out our bracket digitally or by printing it out. Follow these steps to make your picks and share them with your friends.

1

Enter your predicted final score for each group stage match. Matches during the group stage can end in a draw; 0-0 results are always possible.

2

Rank the teams in each group by the number of points they earned during the group stage. Teams earn points based on the following:

  • Win: 3 points
  • Draw 1 point
  • Loss: 0 points

The top two teams in each group advance to the knockout stage.

If you predict two teams in the same group will have an equal number of points during the group stage, make your predictions based on the following criteria:

a. team with the greatest goal differential in all group matches

b. most goals scored in all group matches

If you still need more criteria to rank, follow steps d-g to determine your top two teams for each group.

d. most points obtained in matches between the teams in question

e. best goal differential from matches between the teams in question

f. most goals scored from matches between the teams in question

g. greatest team conduct score relating to the number of yellow and red cards earned.

•Yellow card: -1 point
•Indirect red card (two yellows): -3 points
•Direct red card: -4 points
•Yellow card and direct red card: -5 points

The full rules for qualifying for the knockout stage can be found in Section 12 of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Regulations.

3

Once you have your group teams ranked, plot them into their appropriate slots in the knockout round. For example, the top team in Group A goes into the A1 slot, the No. 2 team in Group B goes into the B2 slot, and so on.

4

Make your World Cup picks through to the end of the tournament. Points and goals don't matter here; every match will have a winner, and the losers are eliminated.

Expert World Cup bracket picks

Two of Covers' top soccer experts have filled out the bracket with bold predictions and savvy picks. See who they have below and download them for your own reference and picks!

Alistair Corp calls for Canada to come out

Covers' publishing editor Alistair Corp is bullish on Canada in to come out of Group F, fueled by a 3-1 win over Morocco. Over in Group B, he doesn't see the USA getting enough points to get past Wales and England.

His predicted final between Brazil and Spain predicts the pre-tournament favorite Brazil besting Spain for another World Cup championship. Argentina will take the bronze with a third-place win over Denmark.

Jason Ence backs Brazil all the way

Covers soccer analyst Jason Ence has also taken Brazil as his gold winner, but instead of Spain, he predicts they'll battle Uruguay in the final. Ence takes a dimmer view of Canada's Group F hopes and see Croatia upsetting the whole group with 7 points!
