NHL futures surrounding the top rookie honors in the NHL went a bit wonky when favorite Connor Bedard went down with a broken jaw, but his return to play has seen him take total control of the odds board.
Bedard's odds dropped significantly as weeks passed by without him playing, but he continues to produce since returning with one of the worst rosters ever assembled.

Latest Calder Trophy odds update
3/27/2024: Just two players remain on the odds board as no one has even come close to Connor Bedard or Brock Faber, and the Chicago rookie has a pretty significant advantage. Brock Faber's been a very solid piece to Minnesota's D corps but his work pails in comparison to Bedard's 56 points in 58 games.
Previous Calder Trophy betting action
3/12/2024: Connor Bedard's lead on the odds board grew when he returned from injury and they continue to go that way with each passing game. He's now as short -900 with Brock Faber the second closest at +600. As the season winds down, this is Bedard's award to lose.
2/27/2024: I hope the rest of the rookies enjoyed the spotlight while they could, because Connor Bedard is once again back to being the best freshman in the NHL. Bedard's return has shortened his odds from -200 to as high as -550, while players like Luke Hughes saw their odds lengthen from +750 to the +2,000 range. Brock Faber is still in second, but unless No. 98 misses another chunk of time, Faber stands no chance in catching up.
2/13/2024: Brock Faber's odds benefitted the most from Bedard's injury, with him now priced as short as +270. However, odds began to move in Bedard's direction slightly as the word is the Chicago prodigy could be back sometime next week. Faber will have to continue his strong play if he hopes to hold off No. 98.
1/30/2024: Connor Bedard still remains out with a broken jaw, and although books haven't moved off Bedard yet, Brock Faber's odds continue to shorten. Faber is one of two Wild rookies who are in the Top 10 of the Calder odds (Marco Rossi at +1,400) but books are more impressed with Brock's 29 points in 49 games. Impressive yes, but a far cry from Bedard's 33 pts in 39 games. The Chicago rookie's absence will tell the story of how this award plays out.
1/16/2024: With all books now offering Calder odds, many followed the same path DraftKings took following the injury to Bedard. He's still the heavy favorite, but the likes of Luke Hughes and Brock Faber have seen their odds shorten heavily as the hockey world awaits the return of Chicago's prodigy.
1/9/2024: Most books are still not offering Calder Trophy odds since Connor Bedard went down with a broken jaw, but DraftKings have shortened the odds of both Luke Hughes (+1,500 to +400) and Brock Faber (+1,200 to +750). DraftKings still has Bedard in No. 1 at -200, but once there's a timetable for his return we should see his odds shift once again.
1/2/2024: Impressive play has new names in the Top 10 such as Calgary's Connor Zary (+3,000) and Columbus' Dmitri Voronkov (+4,000), but the top spot on the odds board is yet to change. Connor Bedard continues to look the part of the No. 1 overall pick and his odds continue to get shorter and shorter. As for the No. 2 spot, that now belongs to Brock Faber, who saw his odds move from +2,000 to +1,200 on the back of 16 points in 35 games for the rookie D-man.
12/13/2023: Bedard snapped a six-game goal drought against the Oilers to build on his team-leading 24 points... as an 18-year-old. When you say sentences like that it's no shock to see him still tops on the Calder board, although Luke Hughes odds continue to shorten while surpassing Logan Cooley at FanDuel.
11/29/2023: Despite all the false narratives surrounding Connor Bedard, he'll be happy to know he's still favored to capture the Calder Trophy. In fact, there hasn't been much movement at the top of the odds board in recent weeks with Logan Cooley (+850) and Luke Hughes (+1,400) rounding out the Top 3.
11/15/2023: Someone's got their swagger back. Connor Bedard was a plus-money favorite just two weeks ago, but that's no longer the case as the Chicago sniper is sitting as short as -280. This has also had massive implications for Logan Cooley (+800) and Jack Hughes (+1,500) as their odds have dropped drastically. This is slowly but surely turning into Bedard's award to lose.
11/01/2023: Almost a month into the season and Bedard is still the favorite, although massive movement at DraftKings has Luke Hughes at +650 since opening at +1,200. Hughes has looked great with his brother and it's not surprising why he took such a massive leap. Another new player in the mix is goaltender Joseph Woll, who has looked like the Leafs' new No. 1 netminder.
10/17/2023: It took Bedard less than four periods to score what is most likely one of the hundreds of goals we'll see from the Chicago Blackhawk. Bedard has three points through four games and has seen his odds move to -175. Logan Cooley and Luke Hughes still round out the Top 3, while the rest of the board remained the same though a week of play.
10/10/2023: Preseason play has shaken up Logan Cooley's Calder odds, with the Coyote between +750 and +800 on the odds board. Joining him in the Top 3 are Connor Bedard — obviously — and Luke Hughes. One big move came with Adam Fantilli, whose odds rose to +1,400 at bet365.
9/26/2023: The consensus on Connor Bedard remains the same with regular season hockey less than two weeks away... he is the hottest rookie coming into the 2023/24 campaign. Luke Hughes and Adam Fantilli are still a ways away behind him on the odds board, with Caesars sportsbook giving Logan Cooley some love at +800.
9/12/2023: Connor Bedard is still king at -140, with Luke Hughes still sitting at +700. Logan Cooley has shifted from the third spot to the fourth after Adam Fantilli's odds moved to +1,100. Devon Levi is also on the fringe at +1,200.
8/29/2023: The Top 3 on the odds board remain in the same order, however, Connor Bedard has seen his odds slightly shift from -140 to -145 while Luke Hughes' odds shifted from +700 to +900... and logan Colloey's went from +900 to +1,200. Odds lower in the board have stayed put in the last week.
8/20/2023: The legend of Connor Bedard continues, with the 18-year-old prodigy already labeled as a -140 favorite to capture Calder honors. Bedard put up 143 points in just 57 games last year with the Regina Pats, and the center possesses one of the most lethal shots in the game already. In second at +600 is Luke Hughes, who got five games under his belt in the NHL last year with the New Jersey Devils. At third with a +900 price tag is Logan Cooley, the 2022 third overall pick who is fresh off a 60-point season with U of Minnesota.

Understanding NHL Calder odds
Most sportsbooks will display odds in the American format as listed above. When the regular season is nearly finished and a consensus has emerged, you might see a player with a minus sign (-) ahead of his odds, like this:
- Connor Bedard -400
The (-) means that Bedard is the odds-on favorite, and a bettor would need to wager $400 to win $100. Other contenders in the Calder race might have plus (+) odds to win.
- Logan Cooley +650
Here, a bettor stood to profit $650 for every $100 wagered.
If American odds aren't your thing, simply use a tool like our odds converter to switch the odds to decimal or fractional format. Most online sportsbooks also give you the option to change the odds format that you see.
