The tides appear to be turning after a decade-plus of Alabama dominance in the SEC.

Georgia captured its first conference title since 2017 with a win over LSU last year, and when you combine that with its back-to-back national titles, the Bulldogs are the unquestioned No. 1 option in the conference.

Can Nick Saban & Co. respond in 2023? We break it all down in our full SEC college football odds below.

Odds to win the SEC championship

Favorites to win the SEC championship

Georgia Bulldogs (-225)

Aside from Stetson Bennett heading to the NFL, there's really nothing to suggest the Georgia Bulldogs isn't still the team to beat in 2023.

Carson Beck has found his rhythm under center (3,495 yards on 72.4% completions through 12 games) and with another stout defense, it's pretty easy to imagine Kirby Smart's squad cruising to another SEC title and a third straight National Championship.

Their betting favorite status reflects just that considering the spread for the title game has moved all the way to -6 after opening at -3.5 at some shops.

Alabama Crimson Tide (+180)

Despite stealing a conference title in 2021, Nick Saban & Co. have been on the back foot in the SEC for two years.

Like Georgia, the Alabama Crimson Tide is leaning on a new starting QB in 2023 (Jalen Milroe), and while he's been excellent at times over the past two months, taking back the conference will be a tough ask.

That doubt became even more prevalent after their double-digit home loss to No. 11 Texas in Week 2 and a 14-point win over South Florida despite closing as 34.5-point favorites, but they appear back on track with eight straight conference wins since then.

Understanding college football futures odds

Sportsbooks release college football futures odds pretty much as soon the clock hits zero in the previous season's National Championship Game. There are many ways to wager on NCAA football futures but we'll use picking the outright winner of the National Championship — definitely the most popular — as our example.

During the offseason and preseason, you'll be able to get a plus-money price on basically any team in the nation as there is so much uncertainty around what will happen next year.

NCAA football championship odds will usually look like this:

  • Alabama Crimson Tide +125

This means that on a $100 bet, you'll stand to win $125 if the Crimson Tide win the national title. If it's close to the end of the regular season and there is a particularly dominant program, you might see that a team has a minus sign (-) ahead of its odds.

  • Georgia Bulldogs -145

This means that if you bet on Georgia, you would need to bet $145 to profit $100 if the Bulldogs won the championship.

Of course, futures odds are a fluid market. They can change every day based on news, injuries, suspensions, transfers, etc. In college football there generally isn't too much movement in the futures market during the offseason, but once the season begins, look for huge changes week-to-week based on wins and losses.
