Phoenix Suns Next Team Odds: Durant to Say 'Screw the Big Three, It's Just Big Me?'

Phoenix ownership contends everything is fine... but the rumblings — and prices for next team odds — of the Suns' three stars suggest some (or all) of them could sports different colors next season.

“The house is not on fire”.

That’s what Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia was stressing after his team floundered in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.

A four-game sweep at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves is extremely combustible for a franchise that sat among the favorites for NBA Finals odds all season, and that early exit was enough to set sportsbooks ablaze as they rushed to open next team odds on the Suns big three of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal.

The Phoenix front office isn’t making any knee-jerk reactions, as both Ishbia and his management are committed to succeeding with this core in 2024-25, but we’ve seen stranger things shake out.

Here’s a look at where bookmakers believe the Suns’ studs could be headed š if they don’t stick around the smoldering desert house for one more season.

Kevin Durant next team odds (if not Phoenix)

Team Odds
Thunder Oklahoma City Thunder +400
Knicks New York Knicks +400
Heat Miami Heat +500
76ers Philadelphia 76ers +600
Spurs San Antonio Spurs +800
Bulls Chicago Bulls +900
Lakers Los Angeles Lakers +1,000
Hawks Atlanta Hawks +1,600
Clippers Los Angeles Clippers +1,800

Odds as of 5-2.

Favorite to be Kevin Durant's next team: Oklahoma City Thunder

  • +400 (20% chance)

A return to the Oklahoma City Thunder tops the board for Durant’s next team, should he force his way out of the Desert. The Thunder are a contending team and would allow KD to continue to ring chase, just like he did in Golden State, Brooklyn, and Phoenix.

The Thunder do have plenty of young guns to use as trade bait (and their stock has never been higher) but would likely need to throw at least one first-round pick in the pot to get the Suns to bite.

We’ll find out if Oklahoma City’s current roster is enough to get to the NBA Finals this spring — which could determine their motivation to reunite with the future Hall-of-Famer.

Long shot to acquire Kevin Durant: Philadelphia 76ers

  • +600 (14.29% Chance)

The Philadelphia 76ers check the boxes in terms of contending and fit, as Durant’s wing play would complement the inside presence of Joel Embiid and the engine of Tyrese Maxey, plus we're seeing in this opening round that the Sixers could use an additional offensive threat.

Philadelphia also has moveable money to cover KD’s final two years and could negotiate a trade with the Suns — packed with draft picks acquired from the James Harden deal.

Devin Booker next team odds (if not Phoenix)

Team Odds
Pistons Detroit Pistons +400
Warriors Golden State Warriors +500
Knicks New York Knicks +600
Heat Miami Heat +700
Bulls Chicago Bulls +800
76ers Philadelphia 76ers +1,000
Lakers Los Angeles Lakers +1,200
Spurs San Antonio Spurs +1,400
Bucks Milwaukee Bucks +1,600

Odds as of 5-2.

Favorite to be Devin Booker's next team: Detroit Pistons

  • +400 (20% chance)

Is playing in his home state of Michigan appealing enough for Booker to bully his way out of Phoenix? The Detroit Pistons are the worst team in the NBA, lack the required talent for a swap this size, and don’t even have their front office holes patched yet.

So, I’m going to go with a hard “No.”

Long shot to acquire Devin Booker: Golden State Warriors

  • +500 (16.17% Chance)

Based on this board, the Golden State Warriors aren’t a “long shot” as the second overall faves, but with Booker under contract in Phoenix for four years, isn’t every team on this list technically a long shot?

That said, Golden State does have wiggle room if it lets Klay Thompson walk — that pads the wallet a bit for a trade that would have to feature the likes of Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, and more.

Bradley Beal next team odds (if not Phoenix)

Team Odds
Lakers Los Angeles Lakers +500
Warriors Golden State Warriors +500
76ers Philadelphia 76ers +700
Knicks New York Knicks +800
Magic Orlando Magic +900
Heat Miami Heat +1,200
Nets Brooklyn Nets +1,200
Bulls Chicago Bulls +1,400
Pistons Detroit Pistons +1,400
Rockets Houston Rockets +1,400
Grizzlies Memphis Grizzlies +1,600
Kings Sacramento Kings +1,800
Pelicans New Orleans Pelicans +1,800

Odds as of 5-2.

Favorite to be Bradley Beal's next team: Los Angeles Lakers

  • +500 (16.17% chance)

If the Los Angeles Lakers are going to lure LeBron James back to L.A., Jeanie Buss needs to bring in some help. D'Angelo Russell is likely gone, but it doesn’t seem realistic that the Lakers would add Beal’s albatross of a contract to their already stressed payroll — there’s potentially $170 million coming to Beal over the next three seasons (Krazy Glued by a no-trade clause).

If he’s going anywhere, it will be to a team that can afford him.

That could be the aforementioned Warriors (also at +500), but what exactly does Beal offer that makes him any different than Stephen Curry?

Long shot to acquire Bradley Beal: Orlando Magic

  • +900 (10% Chance)

How about a team on the verge of contending with a little extra cheddar to go around?

The Orlando Magic are a playoff team with a nice young roster (which = cheap) and are in desperate need of added scoring. They’re on the prowl this offseason after finishing the regular season 22nd in offensive rating and dead last in 3-pointers made.

Beal has Sunshine State connections, having played at Florida, so he could OK the move.
