Cole Irvin (10-14, 3.99 ERA): After pitching well for most of the season it feels like Irvin has hit a bit of a wall recently. The lefty has pitched to a 5.77 ERA while allowing opponents to hit a robust .335 over his last eight starts.
Chris Flexen (13-6, 3.56 ERA): The former KBO star has earned his MLB contract and has been fantastic down the stretch for the Mariners. Flexen owns a 3.12 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP over his last 10 starts, with the M’s winning seven of those 10 games.

The A’s saved their season thanks to a three-game sweep of the Houston Astros over the weekend but now they must get past their kryptonite, the Mariners. The A’s have dropped nine straight games against the M’s this season and it won’t be easy if they want to end that horrible slide.
That’s because they’ll be facing Flexen, one of the Mariners' best starters. The right-hander has quietly had an outstanding return to the big leagues and his numbers at home have been great. Flexen is pitching to a 3.09 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP at T-Mobile Park this season.
The righty is also coming off an impressive start against the A’s his last time out and has allowed just four runs in his last 19 innings of work against Oakland.
As noted, Flexen’s counterpart is in a bit of a slump. On top of that, Seattle has had Irvin's number this season. Irvin has a 7.56 ERA in four starts versus the M's, who are hitting an impressive .377 against him.
The Mariners have the better starter on the hill in this one, have the slightly better bullpen, and have seen the ball well out of Irvin’s hand this season. We’re betting they make it 10 in a row against the A’s.
