After a short break, F1 drivers have headed north for the Canadian Grand Prix at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on June 18.
While the F1 odds board is once again slating Max Verstappen as a sizable favorite, Lewis Hamilton — along with teammate George Russell — is making a bit of a leap after an encouraging week in Barcelona.

Canadian Grand Prix 2023 post-qualifying picks
Race prediction: Max Verstappen to win
To no surprise, Max Verstappen is favored to win Sunday’s grand prix after taking pole position during Saturday’s qualification.
Verstappen took it easy in the first rounds of free practice earlier in the week but posted the fastest time during the final free practice round before winning yesterday’s qualifying by a whopping 1.4 seconds.
After now having won the last three races and the last two by a combined 50+ seconds, Verstappen should be expected to win on Sunday.
Pick: Verstappen to win (-350 at BetMGM)
Best bet: Winning margin 10 or more seconds
Granted, the odds for this particular prop aren’t nearly as good as the pre-qualification odds of -125 we encouraged bettors to take earlier in the weekend, but the move to -200 is not a large enough one to discourage some action after having seen Verstappen claim pole position.
It still seems as if the odds are being anchored by the tighter margins from earlier in the season and not the +27.921 seconds Max won Monaco by nor the +24.090 seconds he just won the Spanish Grand Prix by.
And some of the weather condition changes during the last two rounds of qualification have set up a rather favorable grid for Verstappen. Ferrari teammates Charles Leclerc (10th) and Carlos Sainz (11th) as well as Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez (12th) will be busy trying to climb the grid.
Best bet: Winning margin 10 or more seconds (-200 at FanDuel)
Canadian Grand Prix 2023 odds (without Verstappen)
Week in and week out, we're seeing Max Verstappen listed as a heavy favorite and with him continuing to deliver, the value is being sucked out of the outright winner markets.
Enter the "Without Verstappen" market, where you can bet on the race's top finisher excluding the Red Bull superstar. When Max wins, that will be the runner-up... when he doesn't win, it will simply be the race winner.

Canadian Grand Prix 2023 pre-qualifying picks
Sergio Perez to win +600
Quite frankly, Perez is the only real threat to Verstappen on a race-to-race basis. He has won two of the seven races thus far and has two more second-place finishes as well. He had a poor showing in Monaco two races ago (checked in 16th after finishing last in qualifying) but had a much better showing in the last race.
Perez began 11th on the grid in the Spanish Grand Prix two weeks ago after he was forced to retire after two rounds of qualifying, but was able to climb all the way to fourth and even showed glimpses of being able to challenge for the podium.
And across the 401 laps this season, Perez has led 113 of them (with Verstappen leading the other 288).
Lean: Bet before qualifying
Carlos Sainz fastest qualifier +1400
Carlos Sainz has had a middling 2023 thus far, currently sitting sixth in the Drivers' Championship standings. But he has shown signs of life as of late, and his race history in the Canada Grand Prix suggests he could hold value, especially in qualifying.
At the Spanish Grand Prix, Sainz finished second in qualifying and only trailed Verstappen by 0.46 seconds. In last year's Canada Grand Prix, he finished third in qualifying and just 0.79 seconds behind Verstappen, and ended up taking second in the actual race.
This isn't to say Sainz is likely to win the qualifying round, but he certainly has shown the potential to at least be competitive. And at +1400 odds, that's worth something.
Lean: Bet before qualifying
Winning margin over 10 seconds -125
A lot of the results from earlier in the season are making these odds much longer than they should be. The start of the season saw winning margins of +11.987, +5.355, +0.179, +4.463, and +5.384 seconds.
But ever since Max has begun to really separate himself, the margins have been much wider. He won Monaco by +27.921 seconds, and the Spanish Grand Prix by +24.090.
If Verstappen wins the qualifying round, it's safe to say that these odds will shorten rather drastically given his recent runaway wins. And even if he starts second or third on the grid, there are a ton of long straights on the track for him to take the lead and then build on it.
Lean: Bet before qualifying, avoid after if Verstappen wins qualifying
Canadian Grand Prix 2023 pre-qualifying favorites
Max Verstappen (-330)
It's rinse and repeat for the Red Bull superstar, who pieced together a flawless weekend in Spain and captured his fifth win of the season. He claimed pole on the Saturday prior, won wire-to-wire that Sunday, and recorded the fastest lap.
He finished 24 seconds clear of second place in a result that only further solidifies his domination over the F1 grid. He's a sizable favorite for good reason.
Sergio Perez (+470)
Max's teammate Sergio Perez is the only other guy to win this season, with two wins through seven races. Sitting second in the Drivers' Standings, Checo is really the only logical option if you think Max won't be the guy once again.
Lewis Hamilton (+1,400)
After weeks of seeing Fernando Alonso in this third spot, it now belongs to Lewis Hamilton — at least for now. The car looks to be getting faster, as evidenced by Mercedes' double-podium finish in Barcelona. That marked Hamilton's second podium finish thus far in the 2023 season, and he'll look to finish on top in Canada.
Canadian Grand Prix 2023 opening odds reaction
As a shock to nobody, Verstappen is once again the heavy favorite to capture his sixth win in eight tries. Following well behind him is Sergio Perez who is the only other driver to win a race this season. Hooray for competition!
One thing of note however is Lewis Hamilton moving into the third spot on the board after it belonged to Fernando Alonso for much of the season. Hamilton has yet to win a race this year but captured his second podium finish in Spain, signaling the seven-time world champion is starting to get a feel for his car. Max will be tough to beat, but Lewis has won the Canadian GP seven times — tied for the most ever with Michael Schumacher.

Understanding F1 betting odds
The most popular way to bet on Formula 1 odds is by simply picking the winner of a particular race. Other popular F1 betting options include which car/constructor will win and whether or not a particular race car driver will end up on the podium with a Top-3 finish.
F1 race odds usually look like this:
- Sergio Perez +1,400
This means that on a $100 bet, you'll stand to profit $1,400 if Perez wins that particular race. If one driver is especially dominant, you might see a minus sign (-) ahead of that driver's odds like this:
- Max Verstappen -120
This means that you would need to bet $120 to win $100 on Verstappen winning the race.
