Through two races of the 2023 F1 calendar, one trend is becoming abundantly clear: there's Red Bull... then some empty track... and then everybody else.

Red Bull has gone 1-2 in each of the first two events and like the current F1 Drivers' Championship odds, the F1 odds for tomorrow's race at Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit features Max Verstappen well ahead of basically the entire field.

Australian Grand Prix favorites

Max Verstappen (-300)

Max Verstappen's early exit from qualifying at Jeddah meant that he was forced to start the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in 15th place.

He also was on the radio for most of the race complaining about what he believed was a driveshaft issue... yet he still finished in second place — 15 seconds ahead of Fernando Alonso.

The blistering pace that Verstappen and Red Bull have exhibited through two races is in a class of its own, and it's no surprise that he claimed pole on Saturday and is a clear favorite for tomorrow's race.

George Russell (+800)

Russell nearly topped Verstappen in qualifying and will start just behind "Mad Max" on Sunday. Representing Mercedes, the 25-year-old Brit will look for his first win since taking the 2022 Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paulo.

Last season, Russell finished fourth in the F1 driver standings and 35 points ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton.

Lewis Hamilon, Fernando Alonso (+850)

Hamilton has leapfrogged up to +850 over at FanDuel following his third-place finish in qualifying. Sir Lewis has managed two consecutive Top-5 finishes to start the 2023 campaign and is listed at -380 to snag a Top-6 placing on Sunday.

In the season-opening race at Bahrain, Alonso was heard near the end of the event calling his Aston Martin a "beautiful car to drive" as he finished third — almost 28 seconds behind either Red Bull.

He followed that up by again placing third at Jeddah, as Aston Martin has shown early signs of being a legitimate contender for the second-best constructor this year, boosted into the class with Ferrari (with has won three of the last four Australian GPs) and Mercedes.

Understanding F1 betting odds

The most popular way to bet on Formula 1 odds is by simply picking the winner of a particular race. Other popular F1 betting options include which car/constructor will win and whether or not a particular race car driver will end up on the podium with a Top-3 finish.

F1 race odds usually look like this:

  • Sergio Perez +1,400

This means that on a $100 bet, you'll stand to profit $1,400 if Perez wins that particular race. If one driver is especially dominant, you might see a minus sign (-) ahead of that driver's odds like this:

  • Max Verstappen -120

This means that you would need to bet $120 to win $100 on Verstappen winning the race.
