Louisiana sports betting was officially legalized on June 22, 2021, when Gov. John Bel Edwards signed the state’s two final pieces of sports betting legislation into law.

May 6, 2025: The Louisiana Gaming Control Board reported that sportsbooks in Louisiana accepted $386 million in wagers for March, a slight increase from a $381.2 million handle from February, though the hold percentage hit a 15-month low.

April 30, 2025: In a 39-to-0 vote, the Louisiana Senate approved a bill that would ban sweepstakes gambling and penalize operators, affiliates, suppliers, influencers, and investors. 

April 7, 2025: Louisiana joins nearly a dozen states to oppose sweepstakes gambling with Senate Bill 181, as these types of online casinos have recently come under fire from state lawmakers and regulators. 

March 26, 2025: Despite a third straight month of lower action, the Louisiana Gaming Control Board announced that statewide operators took in $381.2 million in bets last month.

March 25, 2025: Despite Louisiana enjoying financial success with legal online sports betting, state legislators are still wary of venturing into the more lucrative domain of online casino gaming.
