Logan Couture scored one minute into overtime, and the San Jose Sharks won their third in a row, 3-2 over the visiting Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night.

Sprawled on the ice, with the puck hovering on the goal line, Couture got his stick to the puck ahead of diving Detroit netminder Alex Nedeljkovic. The puck was initially put on net by Brent Burns, who had three assists.

Timo Meier scored his 15th goal of the season for the Sharks, who have won three straight at home and are 7-1 in games decided beyond regulation.

Tyler Bertuzzi scored his team-leading 17th goal and Nedeljkovic made 37 saves for the Red Wings, who dropped their third consecutive contest while slipping to 0-4-2 in their last six on the road. Detroit played without star Dylan Larkin, who has a team-high 32 points but is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

With the game tied 1-1 after two periods, Detroit's Nick Leddy skated across center ice and into the Sharks' zone. He rather harmlessly threw the puck on net. San Jose goaltender Adin Hill (17 saves) didn't appear ready to make the stop and was beaten, just 1:48 into the third.

However, the Sharks tied the game less than two minutes later. A hard-charging Jeffrey Viel managed to control the puck enough to put it in the net while being pushed to the ice and crashing into Nedeljkovic.

San Jose, which outshot Detroit 12-6 through the first 20 minutes, struck first by converting one of the first period's three power-play chances.

With 5:36 left in the opening frame, Meier, alone on the side of a relatively empty net, did not miss the tap-in. It was his 39th point in 32 games this season.

Detroit made good on a 5-on-3 late in the second period to tie the game. With 20.8 seconds left in the frame, Bertuzzi deflected in Filip Hronek's blast from the point to tie the contest. It was his eighth goal in the past eight games.
