Seth Jarvis scored 71 seconds into the third period to break a tie and the visiting Carolina Hurricanes went on to defeat the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2 on Tuesday night in Las Vegas.

It was a stellar start to a six-game road trip for the Hurricanes, who have been one of the NHL's best teams for the first month of the season.

Jarvis, a 19-year-old rookie in his seventh NHL game, notched his second career goal. He sent a sizzling shot past Vegas goalie Robin Lehner.

Tony DeAngelo and Sebastian Aho scored in the first period to give the Hurricanes a 2-0 lead, and Vincent Trocheck added a goal late in the game. Teuvo Teravainen and Martin Necas both had two assists for the Hurricanes, while Aho, Trocheck, Andrei Svechnikov and Ethan Bear each had one assist.

Carolina's Antti Raanta had splendid support in front of him, facing only three shots in the first 15 minutes of the third period. He finished with 21 saves.

Raanta had been out since sustaining an injury on Nov. 6.

Brett Howden and Shea Theodore scored for the Golden Knights, both within the first 4:12 of the second period.

Lehner stopped 38 shots for Vegas, which permitted more than 40 shots on goal for the second game in a row.

The Hurricanes, who improved to 6-1-0 on the road, rang up a 34-16 advantage in shots through two periods, but the score was tied at 2-2.

DeAngelo opened the scoring by converting off a feed from Necas, who missed the previous two games because of illness.

Aho's goal came off a rebound on a power play.

Howden made a power move and scored on a back-hand shot. The Golden Knights then won a battle along the boards that helped result in Theodore's tying goal.

More than 12 minutes after Jarvis scored, Trocheck smacked in a rebound to give the Hurricanes a two-goal cushion for the first time since early in the second period.
