Josh Bailey intercepted a clearing attempt by Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry, moved in and chipped the puck in 51 seconds into the second overtime Monday to give the visiting New York Islanders a 3-2 win and a 3-2 lead in an East Division first-round series.

Bailey also had an assist. Anthony Beauvillier and Jordan Eberle also scored for New York, which erased two one-goal deficits.

Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin, who has picked up all three of his team's wins, faced an onslaught, stopping 48 of 50 shots.

Bryan Rust had a goal and an assist, Evgeni Malkin also scored and Kris Letang registered two assists for Pittsburgh. Jarry made 25 saves.

Game 6 in the best-of-seven series is scheduled for Wednesday in Uniondale, N.Y.

Islanders winger Oliver Wahlstrom left in the third period after being hit by Pittsburgh's Mike Matheson.

Pittsburgh took a 1-0 lead at 8:20 of the first period on Malkin's power-play goal. His wrist shot from the left dot sailed past Sorokin's blocker.

The Penguins had the stronger play and better chances in the first, but New York escaped to the intermission with a 1-1 tie after Beauvillier scored with 54.4 seconds left.

With the Penguins defensemen pinching in on offense, Beauvillier had only winger Jake Guentzel to beat as he carried the puck in from the left point. He wove around Guentzel and lifted the puck past Jarry's right shoulder.

That late-period goal didn't seem to shift the momentum. Pittsburgh outshot the Islanders 20-4 in the second and grabbed the lead back.

Shortly after the Penguins killed a penalty, Rust made it 2-1 at 7:37. He took a drop pass from Sidney Crosby, and from the top of the right circle, blasted a shot far side.

The assist was just the second point of the series for Crosby, the team's regular-season scoring leader who had a goal in Game 1.

Eberle tied it 2-2 at 8:50 of the third on New York's first shot of the period. Leon Komarov and J.G. Pageau converged on Pittsburgh defenseman Brian Dumoulin to force a turnover near the end boards. Komarov fed Eberle in the slot. With Jarry sprawled in the crease, Eberle swept the puck in past his glove.
