i used to all the time...Fairways, Greens, Up & Downs, Sand Saves, Putts....everything
i played last weekend and decided to start keeping my stats again...as a lower handicapper i think this will really help me in 3 ways....
1. Focus on the golf course.
2. Help me set up a gameplan before the round begins...i did this on sunday and it really really worked...my gameplan was to hit 18 greens and 2 putt every hole....18 Pars....i wrote this on the card and this was my only goal....i did not fire at pins....i played to the middle of almost every green....and i let my lag putting skills guide me to a 75 on a very hard course from the tips....
3. Help identify areas that need work.
i did not keep fairways hit per say but i did mark when i was unable to hit a green because i missed the fairway (reason for this is i still can hit alot of greens even after missing the fairway....it's when i really put myself in a bad spot that i want to track) i marked every missed green with either a MF (for missed Fairway) or MG (for missed green...meaning i was in the fairway and missed the green for no good reason)
Here are my stats from Sundays Round (8/12/07)
Greens: 12/18 With 3 MF's and 3 MG's
Up & Downs: 2/6 This hurt me...hard to get the ball up and down on this course but i am normally much better around the greens. This includes 1 for 1 out of the sand.
Putts: 33 Alot of putts....but my gameplan was to fire away from pins and lag all day....also i had 1 three putt on a wicked green and did drop in 1 long lag putt for birdie.
Pars: 11
Birdies: 2
Bogeys: 5
Score: 75 + 3
so my question is this...do you guys feel like keeping your stats during a round helps you out? and if not during a round maybe after the round is over you can look back at what went well and what did not go well? also if your not keeping stats maybe you should try it out and see how it goes....feel free to add anything to this thread (including your own stats)
